I fitted this today:

I really miss the external temperature display, so I fitted the above in place of the clock, as my head unit displays the time anyway. I think it looks great and about as OEM as I could get..

The car is with the local independent LR specialist as it has a rough running issue and went into what felt like limp home mode last week, but it cleared its self the next day. Hopefully they will be able to plug it into the computer and find out what the problem is.

Does this display have an alarm function for black ice or did I get something wrong?

You are quite right..... one red light for +1 to +3C

2 red light for -1 to +1C

And a switch to turn it on, on with beeps or off.

I like that, sounds useful. Maybe I should find something similar for the Yeti... :wonder:

My Yeti displayed the outside temp all the time and beeped at me when the temp dropped below 4C and displayed a * symbol on the maxidot.

I fitted a Scangauge 2 today.

I really miss the info on the Maxidot.

This bit of kit is even cleverer!

Mike you're supposed be saving money with this car!!! The rate you're buying gadgets for it...

Yes.....

But it confirmed that my thermostat doesn't work properly. The engine runs at about 69c most of the time. Should be around 90c....

I will fit an inline one from a Renault 5 which is a common mod. The TD4 thermostat is quite hard to fit as the engine is front back converted to transverse engine.

If and when I have any engine work done, I'll get the proper one replaced.

Now all you need is an "I can go anywhere sticker" :bandit:

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

Maybe....more likely to be Surrey 4x4 Response though.

The Freelander can't go everywhere......(neither can a Yeti for that matter). But the Freelander will go further I believe.

And it is more easily modified.

Another update.

After the car shrunk when the winter tyres/wheels were fitted by about 8mm due to the reduced radius of the 215/60 R 16 tyres as opposed to 215/65 R16 that it should have, it has now grown by 40mm after having a lift kit fitted, along with camber pins, the inner wing modified and the fuel lines relocated.mthen it was 4 wheel laser aligned.

It is having a new thermostat fitted and the rear brakes overhauled. I've had a few issues with rough running and smoke when starting first time for the day, for about 10 seconds, then it settles down and is nice and smooth. They did a leak back test and used their diagnostics but can't find anything wrong, so they think it is an injector or more on its way out, but as they compensate for each other, everything is working fine, and spending £1000 having 4 new ones fitted to stop 10 seconds of rough running and smoke is not worth it just at the minute.

I'll post photos when I get it back.

Just be aware of the back door window freezing up on icy days. You will not be able to open the door.

If you know a bad frost is due stick a blanket over the back to stop it freezing in the rubber.

I had an FL2 unfotuneatly it was the worst car I have ever had the misfortune of owning despite this I still loved it but it had to go :( but still have my proper Land Rover :)

Enjoy it, not sure I would have lifted it, makes road driving unstable. Also make sure your insurance know you have lifted it, they may not like it depending who you are with.

Thanks,

I'm well aware of the rear window problems!

The insurance company are fine about it, and I will be fitting 30mm spacers to compensate shortly. Driving it yesterday I didn't notice any instability.

What is a proper Land Rover?

One made by Land Rover?

Or .........

Hello Rockhopper Mike, regarding your rough running and smoke, are you using a fuel improver additive such as Millers?

I've been using that (now called Eco-Power Plus I recall) and it's predecessors, and Millers engine oils, since my first diesel in 1987 (a Mk 1 Astra 1600 idi). And gather their gearbox oils are good too. They're made near here at Brighouse in West Yorkshire.

My younger brother had a huge 2.8 TD Fiat/Peugeot coachbuilt campervan some years back, switched to Millers oil and additive, mpg leapt from about 23 to 28.

Just started to use Millers. I was recommended to use 250ml for first 2 tankfuls then go down to 50ml.

I also use 250ml of 2 stroke mineral oil per tank. A right cocktail!
