Skoda Octavia MK1 PD130 Running Temperture

Featured Replies

Recent purchased this car and I struggle to get 40mpg. Had the car on vag com and both the instrument and engine temps never went over 80c. Does this mean I need a new theromstat? The gauge go up to 90c degrees pretty quickly.

The temp sender has 2 feeds, one for the dash and one for the ECU.  It isn't uncommon to find that one of the outputs has failed.

The guage on the dash is designed to pretty much always show 90 unless there is a major temp difference (otherwise there be phone calls to garages all the time - my car shows 89, 91 instead of bang on 90).

I would suggest that you look at changing the temp sender first, as it should get to 90, even if the stat is stuck open - it will just take a long time.  Remember to change the o-ring too.  Have a search on here for a guide as to how to change the sender.  The process has been well covered by me for the 110 - not sure where the sender is in the 130.
