Is it terminal?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

After finally getting my dad to join the Skoda ranks, his car has died! (cannot believe it). Currently running vcds but at the moment the immobiliser light is flashing and it will not start. Also the glow plug is flashing. No bangs or smoke before hand. The key feels a little weird in the ignition though light there is not 1,2 or 3 point in it, if that makes sense?

Really hope its nothing terminal any help would be great

Mike

Also power is no all the time even without key in

Probably dead ignition barrel

The one in my old PD130 Ibiza stopped working and had the same symptoms.

The barrel can't recognise the immobiliser chip in the key so thinks someone is trying to steal it and bangs the immobiliser on.

That's what I thought as the key is just turning. But then I thought maybe thats just to simple?

I don't suppose you know if its a bummer of a job to change?

Can you try the spare second key first.

  • Author

Either keys work.

Weird thing is that even with the key out everything works. Power still going to car i.e. windows etc. only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery.

Remote central locking is also not working now.

It was just a thought, as placing a key near a high magnetic field (like those at checkouts) can affect the immo chip.

Its possible, the old man is not techno friendly!!!

Honestly mike I dunno.

The car was still under warranty so I just took it back and they fixed it

Tried the spare key?

The first thing I'd do is replace relay 109 (ECU power relay)

Tried the spare key?

did you not read this from the first post?

I've read this could cause this issue. Any its a cheap fix, I'll have to get a copy of manual as I've no idea where that is.

Cheers sadly no warranty (well just run out of the warranty is came with), but from a quick bit of searching its a bit of a job to do.....looks like my weekends booked up!!

Got the ignition lock out in the end, really easy once you work it out.......bloody nightmare until you do.

Replaced the 109 and still doesn't work. I guess next thing to try is petrol and a match?

Try cleaning the earth points under the battery tray. That brought up some of the same fault codes on mine as you have.

Good news is I fixed it. Well kinda. The problem was caused by the moving parts in the middle of the ignition barrel. Lock is fine and so is the actual starting switch. But the bit in the middle that also operates the steering lock is broken.

Now all I need to do if find a repair kit for is, as I tried repairing with a bonding proxy but it broke.

Big thanks to all for your help.

It's good that you've found the fault. The lock barrel is fine so you won't need to go to the dealer to get one that matches the doors.

The part that is broken comes with a new switch and is around £60 retail incl VAT. Take a look on here for someone breaking an Octy and get a second hand part. You can then replace the lock barrel with the one from your existing lock.

You will also need a pair of new sheer bolts. They are about 50p each from a dealer.

Probably dead ignition barrel

The barrel can't recognise the immobiliser chip in the key so thinks someone is trying to steal it and bangs the immobiliser on.

The barrel doesn't have anything to do with reading the immob chip in the key. The barrel is a mechanism for turning the ignition on. There's a transponder aerial that fits around the end of the barrel & this is what reads the immob chip so 2 totally separate parts that work together. You can remove the barrel, stick your key next to the aerial then put a screw driver in the actual ignition switch that fits to the back of the barrel & start the car
