Exhaust blowing

Featured Replies

Typically my luck - new car on order due for build week 37, current Octy sounds like the exhaust is blowing, somewhere from the front I think. Can anyone advise of a cheap temporary fix or anything? Obviously I dont want to spend any money on it as im about to trade it in!

Thanks in advance :)

you'll need to pinpoint the exact source of the leak first. It may be possible to use some tape and sealant, but as I say, it depends where the leak is.

Is there not something called an exhaust bandage that you can get?

Could be something as simple as a gasket

errrr, really.

On my old Citroen the join just in front of the back box went and it was really obvious.

;) no problems with getting on my back :P  but thankfully I know some guys with access to a pit and ramps so will pop over to see them

Might be able to weld on a patch. :)

If welding is needed I might sweet talk the boys into that haha

It could be round the front or centre hangers, they have a tendency to rust where the bracket is welded to the pipe and if it has continued there could be a hole in the pipe. Does the exhaust sound rattly at idle? Mine made a bit of jangly noise as the pipe vibrated against the detached hanger bracket. (Ooo err missus).

Hahaha. No I dont think it sounds rattly/jangly when idling.

Sounds like a job for a Holt's exhaust bandage. The really good news is that done right that could hold for a couple of years.

I dont need it to hold that long lol just until the vrs comes lol (hopefully end of sept!)

Yeah I got that; I thought that you'd like to know that it should hold long enough to be "no comebacks".

Update: -

Well had a good look. Oh not good news at all. It seems the pipe into the cat converter has sheered/come away right at the connection point.

Took it to the devils workshop (kwikfit) and got a nice quote of £300 ish.

Anyone know if it can be welded? The boys I saw who I thought welded dont (typical). I literally only need it to last like 6 weeks!

You should be able to have it welded/bodged if there's enough material.

Day - what do you mean if there's enough material? Do you mean with a big enough weld patch?

Depends how much has broken away. If its all rotten they wont have no material to join. They might be able to patch it up though. Rust isnt the easiest thing to weld together haha :P
