Difference in Aerials?

Featured Replies

Is there any real difference between the various aerials available? I know some others fit like the S2000 and polo or sharan aerials for example.

The reason I ask is my current one is shocking, It pulses in and out of signal when in the city which is annoying in slow traffic and it doesn't get great signal range. I don't mind getting a longer one as the look of it doesn't bother me. Any suggestions on improving this would be much appreciated.

Have you / previous owner fitted a new Head Unit?

if so it may need a signal booster fitted to the aerial, as the OEM head unit has one built in.

Yes, it is an aftermarket head unit. An Alpine something or other. The signal is okay when not in built up areas or when moving. Its just if you stop in a 2 metre long patch, if you roll forward a metre it will be fine.

How much is a signal booster and how hard is it to fit ?

If is the original aerial with its built-in amplifier, then the new head unit may not be feeding 12V power up the aerial lead the booster. Search on here as this topic has been covered before. You may have to change over a link or move a cable on the connector at the back of the head unit.
