Thinking of making a change to my order and after some opinions

KESSY. Just something else to go wrong.

? I was only stating that the KESSY is a luxury accessory and "could" be troublesome. An engine is an important vital piece to a car, that has nothing to do with KESSY?

TBF, you could really take that idea and apply it to any part of a car and nobody would purchase any extra's!

Personally, I though spacenase's reply was just an appropriate reply to your original post but I can now see what you initially meant. ;)

It's always harder to put into words exactly what you're thinking and even then, it can be misconstrued.

From what I've read, the KESSY system uses touchpoints on the door handles in conjunction with key location zones.

The car will only unlock once you grab the handle and if your key is within the same zone as the door you are attempting to open.

The same is true of locking where you have to touch a specific point on the door handle. (see page 35 of the manual)

Unlocking

› Grab the door handle of the front door or cover the sensor 2 » Fig. 15 with the whole palm of your hand » .
Locking
› Touch the sensor 1 » Fig. 15 with your fingers.

Does anyone have experience of how the touchpoints work with a gloved hand ?

Edit to add the following

? Do not use objects which might prevent direct contact between the hand and the grip sensor.

? Some types of gloves can impair the function of the grip sensor.
? After leaving the vehicle, it does not lock automatically, the procedure for locking the vehicle must therefore be observed.

I'm not sure what I expected from KESSY, but it seems like more hassle than a key to me.

I'm satisfied with my choice not to spec it.

Sorry, it's one of my pet hates when people say that. I was unsubtly pointing out that you could apply the same attitude to any part of a car and if you did, we'd not have most of the equipment we take for granted these days.

I originally had KESSY on my list as an option, but took it off when I decided it was just too expensive for what it does. It's only back on my Octavia spec now because I got it for free.

That is not great, the equivalent system in my Renault Scenic, locks the doors once you move (with the key card) beyond a certain distance from the car.  The unlocking works with or without gloves, so it sound like the Skoda system is inferior.  I still wish skoda did a proper Scenic equivalent, would love a car where the trim does not fall off.

If its like the system on my Ford Focus you have to touch the handle for the car to unlock. Can be a bit hit and miss, particularly when it's raining or if your mobile phone is in the same pocket as the car keys (possible interference ??)

its nice to have  my A1 does not have sensor on the passenger door which is annoying at times    :envy:

Well I just thought I'd let you all know my final decision. As I said earlier in the thread I've decided to keep the KESSY, more for the keyless start tbh so I can keep the fob together with my other keys in my pocket.

I've also now decided to get the Amundsen satnav as well and just got back from visiting the dealer to spec it.

Still no build date though :-(

So I just wanted to thank everyone again for all your help and advice :-)

I've got it on my Qashqai (for the next 3 weeks anyway!) and won't miss it. I do open/close by pushing the button on the door handle but tbh using the key fob in my pocket is just as easy.

It's ok, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek! I spent 13 years working on Renaults before I saw the light. The wonderful extras (like keyless idea) were a nightmare and I've become sceptical of any manufactures extra gadgets. The Renault system was a particular headache and generally worked ok for a few years then would start to cost hundreds of ££ in new sensors and handles, wiring looms, body computers etc. Skoda is not French I know but I've been damaged by my past working life!!!
