Beautiful pictures! How is it to drive? Handeling, road noise and acceleration?

I "stole" it for a little spin last night, about 30 km ride in country roads with lots of  bends and straight lines. And compered to my old car. (08 Oct 1.9 tdi)  Its like a dream to drive.

Bends i usually do 60-70 kmph I had 90-100 kmph and I could almost here the car laugh at me and saying is that all you dare??? The car was just floating trough like it was nothing.

On straight lines I was doing 60 kmph and just the slightest touch of the accelerator  I was doing 120 kmph.

The car was just shouting: give it some more. I want to stretch my legs.. :P

The road noise was not absent, so I turned of the radio and just enjoyed the silence.. :)

Sounds good! Mine will be built in week 42 :-/

So I just have to wait..

Time for an update.. :)

Took the family for an trip today in the new car. Must say that it is much more roomier in the backseat, Wife and 2 kids sat comfortably and had plenty of legroom.

The smallest kid sat in the front passenger seat in a baby seat fastened with isofix. :) (yes, airbag deactivated) ;)

Got to try out some of the "toys" in the car.. :)

The voice control did not work in Norwegian, so hope that its just an update to fix that problem.: :)

The ACC did impress me. It is a big step forward from the old cc I have in my old Oct 2. Here I can adjust the speed by 1 or 10 kmph with different maneuvers. The icing on the cake is the adaptive part.

Here I set it on fairly long distance to the car in front (saw 4 lines behind the car in the maxidot display) and was impressed at how well it actually worked. Had the exact same distance regardless if the car in front was speeding up, breaking or was going up or down a hill.. :)

If I have to find a fault with the ACC it must be when you come up to an junction and its activated. The car breaks down and stops at he same distance from the car in front as you where driving behind it... :P

(I know I should have put my foot on the brake, and canceled the ACC. But I had to try.) :)

One more thing that i noticed was that it did not only recognize cars, it also register bicycles, although it displayed a car in the maxidot.. :)

The line assist was also a nice thing. but have to be careful with that one, it may make me lazy when driving. Its enough to just hold one hand on the wheel and the car does the steering. :)

ACC at work.. :)

Could you approximate the actual distance in meters from those 4 lines on the maxi-dot? 10-20-30-40 m?

One of the reasons I got ACC and Lane Assist was to brag that I got a self-driving car on the road before Google did. :D

4 lines is approximately 40-50 meters or about 3 seconds.

I felt that the car almost drove by it self today.. :)

So 1 line would be about 10 meters or 2 car lengths? I'm wondering if would let me tail gate automatically while I browse a newspaper (just kidding! :P).

Sounds about right.. max is 5 lines, but I felt that 4 lines was about my comfort distance.. :)

SURE!!!! just enjoy your paper, and have a cup of Coffey too.. LOL. Btw, why not climb in the back. Its nice and spacious back there.. :P

If you have an accident, just sue Skoda for not doing its job.. :P :P

Nice pictures! Thank you for sharing. I noticed you have a child seat in the front. How do you experience the legroom in the rear seat behind the child seat?

Is it possible to tilt the backrest of the front seat enough so that the kid get decent legroom in the child seat and still have legroom left in the rear seat for a second child seat?

The youngest is almost 8 months and has a seat for 0-13 kg in the front now. (see pic)

But soon have to move to at max 18 kg seat soon. That is the biggest baby seat you get for backward mounting. (isofix)

We tried that seat in the front and it was no problem fitting it and I could easily sit in the back behind it. I'm 184 cm tall. But... As the front seat is so big I could not lower it so I could see properly out on the right side of the front window.

I will try again and see if there is some adjustments I have overlooked later, but perhaps I have to leave it in the backseat..

If I remember I can mount both seats tomorrow and take some pictures.. :)

Cute kid!

I noticed that your Maxidot displayed a compass bearing - is this an extra (perhaps a part of the ACC)?

Thanks.. :)

I think the compass comes with the Amundsen nav.

Here you have some more pictures of the baby seats mounted. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/108292983007073698546/albums/5919815326671572545

Damn you Sweeds... ;) ;)

Or just pop over to Estonia and get a vrs for 24900 euros...

Keeping in mind that the standard spec is about two and a half million times better than UK  :wonder:

First bad news from Skoda Norway on Facebook. I asked them about the voice controls on the Amundsen system. I cant get it to work in Norwegian, so I asked if there was an update.

But sadly it is not. the system don't support  voice control in Norwegian. Only GUI, Nav MAP and Nav announcement.

But the Nav announcement does not work. So have to take it up with my dealer to see if I am doing something wrong, but doubt it.. :(

Al tough I have removed secondary languages the Nav still speaks to me in Swedish.. :P

Oh, the drama! :P

I wish I had my car here and was speaking to me in Moldavian (basically the same language as Romanian)...

LOL...

I cannot wait to try out the voice command system! If it is half as bad as the one in a Mercedes C-class I rented in the states, I'll have hours of fun behind the wheel trying to get the car to do the most mundane things!  :giggle:

The only thing I've tried so far is making a phonecall (in swedish), and except suggesting the wrong contact (with the one I wanted as second alternative), it worked ok. It's faster to scroll the phone book manually though.

Got an update from Skoda Norway today, There is an software problem with the Amundsen in the Octy 2014 model. That is why the satnaw wont speak in Norwegian. There will be an update, but don't know when.. :/

  • 3 weeks later...

Do you have any consumption figures? I'll be picking up my 1.8 TSI with DSG in a few days and I'm quite curious about the average consumption of the engine.

  • Author

I have just looked at it one time. it was 9,4/100km

Have to have the engine run in before I check it out properly :)

Nice family car and very nice family. All the best Kabe
