Nice car and color ;)

I just placed an order on a 1.8 tsi dsg estate.

And it looks like there is enough space fore the rearward facing child seat in the back, and still be comfy in the front..

I'll be picking up mine tomorrow - will post pics in a separate thread   :sun:

Congrats, any idea when you get it? 2wd or 4x4?

And yes it is, I'm 184 cm and have no problem in neither front or back seat with a baby seat in the opposite seats :)

First 1.000 km done in the car (sorry to all the UK readers, I have my numbers in km and liters not miles and gallons)

Compared to my 1,9tdi I get shivers when I see my fuel consumption  LOL

Average first 1.000 km is 7.9 Liters / 100 km

Had a trip today 155 km

average speed: 66 km/h

consumption: 6.6 liters/ 100 km

So I see that its on its way down, and I know it needs to be run in.

But I'm really happy that I don't have to commute with this car to work every day, it would bankrupt me.. LOL

Other than that, I just LOVE the car, the ride is excellent, the comfort and space is really good. And the gadgets such as ACC, line assist, front assist, Bi.Xenon, Bluetooth, electric boot, folding mirrors are all funny, useful, helpful, and just plain smart.. :)

Have you been driving in the evening yet?

I’m curious about the higbeam. Rumors says it week.

compared to my 2008 Octavia with only halogen high beam its MUCH better.. :) No complains what so ever about the lights from me.. :)

Thanks. BTW I just found your answer in another post.

Still waiting for delivery on my car. But it’s on the way. Should arrive in one or two weeks.

The consumption figures aren't at all bad considering that you have four wheel drive. When it comes to the high beams, the bi-xenons do a really god job on dark Norwegian roads, and the light assistant controls them well when encountering oncoming traffic. Even though it was included in the Elegance spec here in Norway, I would have paid extra for it.

Nice. Roads are just as dark in Sweden as it is in Norway.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally my car is delivered. And I’m so pleased!

Sorry Kabe111 I highjack your topic and show a few photos (mobile phone)

I did get a prov. build week 48... dealer told me delivery around christmas, but i don't trust that...

Did you wait long for delivery after the car where built?

My car is a 2wd, as this is the first time i am not going to get a BMW, it will be the first time with fwd as well, excited and a bit scared for what i have ventured in to..  ;)

Regarding the fuel economy, i don't se 6,6 as bad figures since you do have the 4x4...

From production day to delivery day was 14 days for me.. :)

If I average 7.0 I will be happy.. :) When I got 6.6 I was almost afraid to touch the accelerator.. :P

  • 2 weeks later...

I've got mine 4x4 TSI.

Realy happy! The car is so fast and so nice to drive.

It was easier to not drive to higher rpm with new motorbike than these TSI engine.

Since I've ordered rough road package my car is 1,5cm higher and has 16" alloys. The ride comfort is slightly better than by standard suspension and 17" rims.

Still no idea why RRP is not available with 17".

.
An interesting thread!  Thank you.

I'd be interested to hear why so many of you want 4x4.  Presumably because of the climate in Scandanavia?  I hear people in Britain (on this forum - see the last few posts here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/291391-roadholding-with-the-4x4/ ) say, in effect, "It's a waste of money - the car doesn't handle any better in the dry, and on slippery / snowy / icy / muddy roads, a  good set of winter tyres are just as good as having 4x4 ...".

I guess in your experience, that is not the case?

Edited by Stuarted

Winter tyres are essential for snow and ice. 4x4 doesn't help by braking.

But the 4x4 drive with haldex V car does handle  better in the dry, slippery, snowy, icy, muddy roads.

Some examples:

- starting from crossroads uphill to main road,

- starting from gravel side on the road

- garages, park places. Sometimes you have to climb up.

Thanks - this is helpful.

Obviously 4 wheel drive does not help with braking - you've already got 4 wheel brakes anayway! - except perhaps when just slowing down, using engine braking?

I am most concerned about ice & snow in winter, and wet grass (particularly, occasionally towing a trailer around a not-very-well drained grass airfield) and muddy roadside verges and gateways all year.  Not planning to set off across wild countryside!

When engine braking the 4x4 system is inactive.. :) 4x4 only engage when you push the accelerator hard or the front wheel(s) start slipping.

But under the other conditions you describe the 4x4 will be helpfull. :)

I went for the 4x4 petrol because the suspension is a bit firmer on the 4x4 compared with the Fwd. I got a feeling of better handling in cornering and such.

My car is now 2 weeks from delivery.

I live in the Wolds of Yorkshire and find 4x4 much more adept at handling the road conditions we get here and generally better to drive than the 2wd equivalent. Previously owned a BM 525ix (most unreliable car ever), Octy I 4x4 Turbo HB, Golf TDI 4motion, and now on my second Yeti 4x4 :giggle:

Was out in the rain today and pushed it a bit in corners and roundabouts, damn it grips to the ground like its glued on.. :) Just love the 4x4 :D :D

For the 'average' UK driver winter tyres are a better investment than chopping in the Mondeo and paying through the nose to run a FL2. That is a separate argument.

4WD undeniably provides more grip. In a Disco this means better off road prowess, in an Evo or Impreza this means amazing B Road performance and supercar worrying performance on a tight and twisty track.

I principally got the Scout back in '08 for its compromise of Estate Car practicality, decent economy and mild off road prowess. An accident of all this was that as someone who enjoys a good drive you can throw it down a B-Road by the scruff of its neck and it's a surprisingly fun, safe, fast drive, despite the outward looks.

With the seamlessness of the Haldex I didn't realised how much I'd grown into using it over the years without knowing; until I had a 2WD Yeti as a courtesy car that 'felt' the same to drive (basically same chassis) but wheelspan from traffic lights when I wasn't trying to and understeered on roundabouts............

With a mixture of MQB weight savings and performance gains in the 150PS TD I'm expecting the new car to be even more adept at the B-Road blast.

All of that post is interesting and helpful - thank you.

Presumably for anyone slightly less interested in actual off-road driving and even more interested in economy, the non-Scout 4x4 Octavia estate might be an even better option?
