KrissTheMiller's Octavia vRS Project

Right then, I've been wanting to do this for a while now but not really had the time. I got up at 7 this morning and started working on the car straight away then thought I'd do a build thread while the Wife's still in bed  :)

It's taken me an hour to find all my 200 pictures taken over the last 18 months  :)

Here goes.....

I bought her back in Feb 2012 looking like this

Compare1_zps34f82b07.png

The first thing I did to the car was fit my CD player, boost gauge and a volt gauge given to me by a friend

IMG_20120127_185204_zps12779378.jpg

Then I had to get rid of those aftermarket alloys, so I sourced a set of spiders from a fellow Briskoda member.

It was freezing and the snow was coming down but nothing was going to stop me tinkering ;)

Doesn't my dog make a good supervisor lol. He does this in quite a few pics.

Looking under the bonnet the crash bar was developing surface rust so as the tax was running out she came off the road for a while so I could tinker  (Harvey is supervising again!)

Repainted crash bar fitted with addition on TRS tow strap

IMG_20120609_130902_zps70fa92f6.jpg

I bought a pair of new lights as the old ones were past it with cracked brackets.

IMG_20120613_195400_zps50059644.jpg

Painted the inlet manifold, installed my new catch can (gets moved later) new cheap and cheerful air filter and a general clean up

IMG_20120627_113549_zpsbd4f6477.jpg

Invested in a proper gauge holder too

Thanks for the comments guys!

A new day so I'll add a bit more to the journey....

So while she was up in the air I decided it would be a good idea to lower her a little more, chop the springs a little.....

It looked awesome but was extremely bumpy and the worst thing that I could have done to the car  But you live and learn....

Please excuse the missing grill :)

We gave her a good clean and a polish and went for a cheeky shoot

Looking back at it, it's a good job I didn't fit the splitter just yet!

So all the worked stopped for 2 weeks as we went on our honeymoon to Tenerife. Saw a rude Octavia over there and had to take a picture of it  (wife called me sad but who cares lol)

IMG_20120813_112250_zps8fa4c9cf.jpg

Soon as we got back I had to tinker  I was having withdrawal symptoms lol. I moved the TRS towstrap to the correct side, cut a bit of the grill out to slot it through and put the n/s grill back in. (sorry about the quality of the pic)

IMG_20120907_195038_zps561e20ba.jpg

Here's a better pic

The next addition to the car was a detachable towbar from a fellow briskodian  Luckily for me, rather unluckily for him his car decided it didn't like the rods inside the engine...

IMG_20120918_144040_zps7b85646a.jpg

Finally plucked up the courage to part with 40 of my hard earned english pounds. Fitted the splitter then took her for a drive upto my grandparents in Derby and instead of spending time with them I decided it would be a good idea to wash and polish the car  :giggle: Good job they love me....

For the next bit I must apologise to GeeMan-vRS244, I was trawling through the build threads and fell in love with his engine bay so I copied a little

I painted a few bits in kawazaki green and added braided fuel and coolant hoses.

Cheers matey, I just got it from ebay mate about £12

I no its terrible.... lol its a slightly different shade though ;)

yeah i went looking after and found it :giggle: dunno what colour doubt ill have it show tbh i thought it would be a good idea to cut the tow eye off lol have been stuffed several times now :giggle:

lol thats what i say

  • Author

Haha I have a few times too, only through fault of my own though not the car lol. I have been thinking about cutting it off as it interferes with my cooler pipe :)

lol probably my fault aswell but i blame the car ;)

thats exactly why i removed it lol

Good work now get booked in and join us at castle Combe on the 14th of September

Looks wiked mate. I take it you dont have speed bumps in your town, lol. What size are the rims?

  • Author

Id love too mate but im away watching touring cars on the 14/15th at Rockingham raceway. :)

It gets better mate when I can get the chance to upload some more pictures lol. Not even half way through the journey yet.... yes theres plenty of them but I have to plan my route to avoid them :) the rims are standard 17s with 215/40/17 continentals on them.

How do i make all my pictures bigger so people dont have to click on them? tried photobucket way and briskoda says it doesnt support this image type? :(

Upload to photobucket then copy and paste images from photobucket into your post.

  • Author

Cheers mate ill try it when I get home :)

  • Author

Right then thanks to group1rs my pics are now larger :) took me a few hours but I can now continue with the thread

While the car was stripped for paint I carbon wrapped the upper and lower grills

Copied Gee a little more

Thought I'd make a little effort on halloween decorating the car and caravan. Looked good at night with the pumpkins outside too but cant find that pic...

20121031_163942_zpsfb9c1ee4.jpg

Here's an unpleasant part to the thread, my car decided it wanted to transform into a swimming pool :( the passenger front and rear had gathered quite alot of water....

Think the interior came out twice before I found the leak. It was the grommet behind the glovebox (my fault of course!) Plenty of silicone inside and out solved that problem. Was getting ready to sell it the 2nd time it flooded  :giggle:

On a better note my plates had arrived :) She had to have a wash before the picture :)

20121117_110707_zpsdf7ad322.jpg

And we were all ready to go on our first holiday with the caravan, looks a bit of a nail on the outside but the wife had worked her magic on the interior and it was like new. With the edition of a stereo and some LED lights inside from me of course :)

Plenty more to come chaps!  :hi:

My next addition to car was carbon wrapped roof. My friend wanted to do his at the same time so we took the plunge and bought the material to do it ourselves.

It didn't take too long to be honest after we'd clay barred the roof. it took us about an hour. It went into the night a little but nothing a floodlight can't sort  ;)

Heres a shot the following morning. Very pleased with it!

20130121_043546_zps88742773.jpg

It ended up with me back on the drive at home 1 hour later lol (its was thicker than it looks on my drive)

20130121_053701_zpsa3e67f48.jpg

I didn't take any progress pics for this part but here is the finished picture of my new coilovers fitted, no more silly cut springs

Next on the list was something that has been sat on my ebay list for about 3 months and finally managed to persuade the wife i need them for work as i do a lot of driving  ;) Wind deflectors! Yay!

20130413_110321_zpsa619716a.jpg

Before the remap new brakes were a must! I had been meaning to change the back ones since i bought car over a year ago. Ooops  :giggle:

20130328_145551_zpsb8159f0d.jpg

Sticking with the red calipers..... for now  :)

Finally got around to purchasing a FMIC  :) It's a toyosports cooler from a fellow Briskodian. I bought one a few months before from someone on here but it never arrived. Some of you may have seen all the problems he caused for everyone and it took me 2 months to get my money back.

20130413_175052_zps709af0d2.jpg

Only in the hard shoulder due to a friend breaking down and thought it looked pretty cool with the new cooler  :)

Ok then here you go...

Jbs1_zps241524bd.jpg

The remap took forever to do as the laptop wouldn't connect the car so they had to remove the ECU and do it that way. The chap who did it wasn't impressed when i kept asking questions  :giggle:

Finally he managed to do it and sent me on my way to maplins for some resistors for the n249 and 112 that i removed. Couldn't give it any stick until they were fitted :(

While i was there i happend to park next to another vRS :)

20130420_124738_zpsd0b2b7ed.jpg

They look rather different....

this is coming up to be a good build... watching with interest! I tried wrapping my roof with gloss black... didn't go too well but I do find carbon wrap to be a lot more forgiving to work with so now that's on my mind! Nice work! :)
