RIMBLADES

Featured Replies

Hi all, has anyone tried/had experience of these? Got an 11 plate Fabia VRS which had kerb damage to front N//S when I bought it. Gigaro black/polished rims 17" wheels, looks gorgeous but kerb damage lets overall look of car down massively :-( me being me, I can't rule out the odd scrape in future so thought these might be good....... But will they stay on at 120+??? ( at my local disused airstrip of course)

Thanks,

John

Hi

Welcome to Briskoda

This part of the forum is for introducing yourself

I've moved this to a more relevant section, where it will be seen by more people

Cheers

Damo

BTW I have heard that Rim Blades have become unstuck at a lot less than your quoted MPH, and can cause damage to bodywork as they flail around

You could try not driving into kerbs?

I am a pretty careful driver - not kerbed it myself yet....... But it has been badly kerbed front n/s by previous owner, it lets the car down badly as is otherwise mint..... With the low profile tyres/potholed roads combo I just fear it's only a matter of time, plus when the snow n ice hit .... It won't be long now!!!

Emailed a pic to " thewheelspecialist " in Leeds, maybe I will have to get friendly with them :-/

Polished an abarth yesterday with these on. One was missing and another was split... Not good!

In 10 years of driving I've never kerbed a wheel, so it's not really "a matter of time" ;)

Having a quick nosy on the web, you might be better off with rimbands rather than blades as they sound like they are more fixed and fitted so more likely to stay on?

Rimblades....

I thought this was a topic I could really contribute to with

some authority for once. Seems it's about something completely different.

Cheers all, Babs u is obviously a more carefull driver than me. I consider myself a good driver, plenty of common sense and road sense . But I am not infallible...... I have been riding motorbikes since I was 7 ( so that's over 35 yrs) without incident until recently wrote off my Triumph 1050, was riding with care, but sometimes poop happens......anyways these Rimblades appear to be a bad idea!! Where was that tel no for the wheel repairers ??...............

My 2nd car had wide wheels with mirror polished lips, so I'm very careful with kerbs!

I wish I was as good as some of the contributors to this thread. Between SWMBO and I we have kerbed a wheel or two on all our cars. The 18s on the Superb L&K we now drive terrified me - I understand refurbing is far more then the £50 we normally paid Kevin at SmartCymru repairs for tidying up the odd wheel on the previous car a Saab and the Focus we still own.

I invested in a set of Alloy Gators, they look pretty good in silver. You can see where we might have damaged the wheel had they not been fitted. They've been on for about 4000 miles. I noticed that one looked a little loose on about 10cm of the diameter a week or so ago but as they are clamped by the tyre I just tapped it back in place using a block of wood and a hammer ( I don't have a rubber mallet).

Like most people I don't think I'm a bad driver, I've tested myself by taking the IAM test as well as entering safe driving competitions/ events and competing ( successfully ) in auto tests. We are all human and humans make mistakes - fit them for your peace of mind. Don't get too envious of those who are perfect, try to emulate them but without the worry - your wheels will be protected :-)

Have heard better things about the alloy gators than the rimblades

Probably why the gators cost a bit more

Thanks for all the comments/replies, defo won't be investing in Rimblades but Alloy Gators may be viable..... If I get some I will keep this post posted as to how they do!!

Thanks again y'all!

John

Alloy gaters do seem like they will stay on well...

Or... buy some steel wheels, put nice shiny un-marked alloys back on when you sell it?

  • 1 month later...

If you want a set of Silver Alloy gators I have some for sale right now?

Saves paying RRP?

  • 3 months later...

yep i would get Alloy Gators mine are excellent and do the job, another bonus  you can reuse them if you ever need a new tyre  ;)
