Fabia vrs catch can

Featured Replies

Guys.... Any pics and help with fitting a oil catch can on a fabia vrs would be awesome

And a list of stuff needed would be beyond awesome

Just vent to air, imo looks alot tidier.

Whats that bung ?

You can put anything in it that will fit. Think I used a cap off of something but have seen people use walking stick ends etc

Here's a couple of my setup, just bent the bit of metal what the engine cover sat into as I don't use it anyways.

Where did you source your catch can?  I struggled to find one with 19mm hose attachments at the time and gave up so bodged my own using a 'magic bullet' container.  I've since done around 80k miles but doesn't look pretty LOL  BTW a screw cap from a bottle of any pop bungs the outlet nicely, I also used washing machine waste pipe which gives you an OEM look.  I also still haven't had the CEL light mapped out but it doesnt really bother me.

you shouldn't need the CEL mapped out when you have done this mod, well it shouldn't come on anyways, I just bought the 15 mm outlets ones as the 19mm were about £100, mine cost £24 or something off eBay. Some will argue that 15mm outlets will damage your engine, I've never noticed anything yet.

what did you use to connect the 19mm pipe to te smaller pipe? :)

I used some sealing paste for plastics around the edge of pipe but to be honest it held its self in place by simply pushing it in.

Sounds like a bodge but it worked pretty well and doesnt leak.

Your catch can wants to be placed higher than your cam/rocker cover ideally,as condensation will go to the highest point :)

I wonder how many Fabia owners that also ride motorcycles

vent to air?? (Or more accurately to road surface...)

Not ideal the elephant mod (bodge) really :(

Apart from the crap your dropping on the road you are removing the vacuum draw from the inlet which is designed to draw out moisture/fumes/vapours etc from the crankcase.you then are relying on the crank case pressure to push out all of the above, which it does not do.

Race engine's get away with running no vacuum draw due to how hot they get the oil and all moisture is evaporated from the crank case.

The best option by far is a oil seperator, like the one's in the group buy section ;) ,not just a empty catch can.a seperator has baffles inside to seperate the liquids from the gasses.

So you still draw fumes/gasses into the inlet tract without the liquids which are left in your seperator :)

You should ideally have some medium or baffle in a catch can.

exactly what the poster above stated then. Lol

No not 'exactly' lol

Ideally with cheap catch can stainless brillo pads have the same effect, also have as an output port on the side lower down thus it doesn't take the easiest route out through the top as one person above said.

is that this group buy?

the "Saikou michi" GB?

if so that i'd be interested in that, i presume, you go crankcase - seperator - inlet so like you said there's still vacuum to bring the fumes out, but no crap going into the inlet?

Yeah like that.

A catch can with both inlet/outlet at the same height like the one pictured above will not separate correctly even with gauze/medium inserted in the can.

This is how the Saikou Michi works:
