George,

What has the spare wheel, which seems to be one of your hobby-horses at the moment, got to do with Yeti 1.8 or diesel engines, and your second, Autoexpress link doesn't seem to have anything to do with the current range of engines, so is also irrelevant!

It is about Claims from Manufacturers,

sorry if slightly off Topic, really sorry if it does not suit the thread.

(my post #43 & Official Emissions and economy figures and real life driving.  Diesels and fuel used in Regenerations)

No more off topic really than those from DPF Problem Deniers, that seem to regularly say that because they have no problem that no issues might exist or occur to others.

Re Engine failures.

German Manufacturers Engine Failures in Used & out of Manufacturers Warranty Cars

That link is there for showing my point about were the Internet and things like Surveys bring to the publics attention the actual figures where previous to the Web & they might never have been widely seen.

Important to note, that Engine Failures can be down to how UK drivers drive and Maintain or Lack of DIY or Professional Maintenance or even Correct maintenance by the Professionals.

eg, Lease & Hire cars from new having different Servicing intervals.

eg, Private buyer buys a used car with FSH, and might still need a Full Service carried out as soon as purchased, Replacement Belts etc.

On this forum there are examples of buyers of used Skodas that then find out the Previous Owner might have driven in a way that had the DPF clogging regularly and they need to then have it Cleaned or Replaced.

Or just start driving & using in a way where that no longer is an issue.

Nothing in that link applies to any engine fitted to a Yeti, therefore it is pointless.

Do you never like to see a subject or thread evolve once the first answers have been given.

Pointless can be OK in forums, can it not?

Gives you the opportunity to say 'Reported'.

Sorry mine are pointless, but people can and do ignore them and jump straight to ours, always to the point and never deviate from the subject in hand.

Do you ever read posts as they are posted one after another.?

Skoda and VW Audi group are wonderful, everything they do is wonderful.

Yetis are wonderful, all is good and well and saying so often enough will see everyone right.

LOL, are you for real?  Are you a Road Captain & Forum Captain, & self appointed Moderator.

What right have you to refer "the Scottish member" to anything?

You see my Location not my Nationality, which is British.

You might think you know my place of birth, & you are probably right.

Just forget my location and refer to me as a Briskoda Member maybe or by name which i clearly use in my posts.

I have no interest in your location or your place of Birth. or parentage.

Oh FFS, it's a joke, a whimsy, a funny comment, nothing more than that.

:wall:  :wall:

Yeah they have been on petrols for a while now. MK1 Octy vRS has one - probably on the other petrol engines also.

They're becoming more common on petrol engines, too.  I believe a number of the more recent BMW petrol engines have DMFs (someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong).

DMFs in petrols aren't as much to worry about as diesels. The torque is not as high (generally) as a diesel engine and comes in in a somewhat smoother manner. This takes load off the DMF and allows it to last longer.

I researched this (as a DMF failure sufferer on my, granted PD, Octavia) before I chose a petrol engined car. Comparing on here the DMF failures of turbo'd petrols was significantly lower than the the diesels.

I have chosen petrol this time after a string of TDIs and couldn't be happier. Yes the economy is lower but the fuel costs are lower (and will be more so come a couple of months when the Americans need their winter diesel for heating) to begin with and the purchase price was £3000 less than the same mileage/spec diesel.

The 1.8TSI is a real peach; pulls nicely from down low and once above 4000RPM really gets motoring!
