Air filters!

Featured Replies

K&N Airfilters.... any good?...are they "snake oil", placebo.....cos there expensive they must be good!!!

Anyone had any experience with these? esp for a Octy 1.9tdi 02

Cheers, Lando

wondering the same thing for the same car!!

Buy a green filter they are oiled a bit less..... all they do is let the air pass a little easier.....if you take a brand new filter out and then fit it you may not notice the difference ....but there is a diffence :D

Yep!

If they don't need any special fitting, just exchange apparantly! and claim that performance & economy as well as the enviroment  are improved, why don't Skoda fit them as standard? after all

Price is everything on a new car. That 50 quid may go towards some gadget more people (think they..) need/want.

Hi WW..

notice you have a Green Filter!.. better? any discerning difference?....worth it?...easy to fit?

Real easy to fit ......two screws... old out..... new in ......screw lid on......30 seconds :D

:D Took me a little longer than Octygone ;)

But yeah, with the right tools (proper size crosshead screwdriver, mainly) it's very easy to fit.

As for better - seems to be, the difference isn't massive but noticable. The main reason I got it is coz you can clean it (need to) and it will last for a long time.

The paper filter is left in for 40k miles - which imho is too long.

After 5k miles the paper filter was filthy in mine (that's when I swapped over).

Think you get slightly more air into the engine which should help it rev a bit more freely at the 4k+ side. Problem is I got the PD160 intake at the same time, pretty much, and that combined with the Green filter made a nice difference.

I'd go for it :)

I've got a K&N filter.

Everyone uses K&N here, there's no one representing Green in this area...everybody reccomends K&N too, and it works. Excellent filter, allowing something like 80% more air in IIRC. 1,000,000 mile warranty, servicing every 45,000 miles.

what do you mean by service every 45k. just a quick wash out??

They need to have all the dirt knocked out and then cleaned and re-oiled. 45k miles seems a long time, I know Green recommend 7.5k mile intervals, but that may be just because it was on a diesel. Cleaning is a DIY job and took me about 30 mins (you have to leave it to soak and then dry before oiling it :D)

BMC do a panel filter and I was thinking about buying one for my 4x4 hatch.

Hi guys, sorry been moving... hence lateness,

debate on this post and others on the air filter issue, are not

wholly conclusive  , seems to me is,is to try a filter, (in my case the Green!) and see what it does for me :), they both sound very similar, with only the "oiling" point being the major diff. i don't think anyone can tell

in a blind test which one is which, since they offer nigh on identical claims!

Cheers  Lando

We sell LOADS of the Green Cotton.

We do try to only sell good quality products.

We test everything and look in to what the down sides could be.

We have had NO problem at all with Green.

Sell loads and offer a discount to Briskoda members and I can even post them out for you.

You might want to check that as air filters get dirty pretty quickly and I wouldn't want to leave it as long as the intervals Mil suggests between cleans!

Chris

Actually Chris, in England you wouldn't have much of a problem with that as you really hardly have sand and dust flying around there. It's here in Dubai that your post really applies :) I don't think manufacturer's can make a claim about their product not being what they say it is...otherwise by now they should have been sued don't you think?

Lasts up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required depending on driving conditions. Suspect that's how they get out of it ;) Would be interesting to see one after 10k miles for comparison :D

Chris

I would have thought that the extra oil would attract alot more dust as it would be quite sticky.

I know Green recommend 7.5k mile intervals, but that may be just because it was on a diesel.

Green recommend between 6k and 9k kilometers.

I cleaned and re-oiled mine last week after about 10k miles and it was filthy. Contrary to whatever Kev said

However, mine is a cone filter and sits in the gap between the arch liner and the back of the bumper. I would imagine mine would get dirtier.

BTW For those with a Green filter don't bother with the Green cleaner. Just get the oil. The cleaner is just weak washing up liquid or near as damn it.
