2010 VRS 170CR manual slight throttle lag when pushing hard normal?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Would appreciate experiences from other VRS CR 170 owners.

Before I get into the detail, this is not the known issue regarding hesitation when going over a dip, I have read the posts on this and it is quite different.

OK, this may just be my getting used to the feel of the CR engine having had the car for a few weeks, but when pushing hard, full throttle to high revs and up through gears the power delivery lags slightly before coming on hard immediately following an up change, just for 0.25 of a second or so. It feels like old school turbo lag but the turbo should already be spooled up hard at high revs. She is a manual 6 speed, not a dsg.

It may just be a characteristic of the fuel delivery or turbo configuration on the CR, but the delivery feels different to my old PD VRS fabia or PD VR Octy and my recent 530D that didnt have these little blips in delivery after a change.

Mine does something similar. The first time I noticed it I thought that there was something wrong but I think it is just a characteristic of the engine. It is an odd feeling tho.

I've had mine a couple weeks and feel the same, I put it down to turbo lag or drive by wire throttle system

I've wondered whether a remap could help with lag but curiously regarding the latter I cam across recently

anyone have any experience with this little device...not cheap

Probably turbo lag.

You lift off the throttle and the turbo veins move to stop boost then you press again and they move back and the turbo spins up again.

That's just how these engines work rather than a fixed turbo and a wastegate.

My vectra is similar. You'll probably find if you get timming right and get back on the throttle as you release clutch you won't get any lag. Works me.

Ok, not just me then :-)

Fyi, I have a Revo stage 1 remap so that doesn't eliminate the 'feature', neither does staying full on the gas between changes. Just the way the veined turbo, fly by wire and fuel delivery is set up, we will have to assume given the similar experiences.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, hopefuly this post will help a few people with similar questions going forwards.

Interestingly, you cannot trail brake in modern VAG cars either, the ecu cuts power delivery, I am sure all of these things are linked into a nanny state ECU protecting the mechanicals.

Pretty normal id say, bearing in mind they have a drive by wire throttle (experiencing some kind of throttle lag is a by-product with most cars) and everything including boost delivery is entirely ECU controlled.

Be thankful in some respects you dont have a DSG....i find with mine it has a tendency to go up a gear at really inconvenient times, even when in manual bogging the car down almost like its over-ruling your request for 100% go. Its not a fault either as my old 7 speed Fabia vRS did the same thing occasionally.
