Engine light came on, got it checked out, and apparently its:

Coolent Temp Sender - G62 Reading too high.

What does that mean? And how to I fix it?

All help appreciated

Thank you

Replace the coolant temp sensor, very common fault, covered a fair bit on here.

I think I may do a 'How to' for this as a mates one needs changing.

Excellent. Thank you mate! Is it straight forward to do? Or shall I give the honors to the Skoda dealer? (its out of warrenty), and if so, is it expensive?

Piece of cake to do, takes 5 mins but please change it on a cold engine.

Thank you for your help mate! Final question, before I go out and buy the part on monday... where does it go? lol, and how do I fit it?

I'm under the impression that the old ones were black, and the new ones are now green, is this correct?

That is correct. It is located in the top coolant hose down the right hand side of the cylinder head. You need to take off both engine covers (the main one and the lower 'L' shaped one to get on it). De pressurise the system by undoing the cap, unplug the sensor, pull out the plastic retaining clip, pop the sensor out, pop the new one in, put the clip back in and reconnect the plug.

I've just taken a picture of my engine, with both of those covers removed. Could you please point out to me where the sensor is, as I'm lost! lol

No. The Fabia's is a different part number and, as you have discovered, only has 2 wires. The obvious place to buy is from a Skoda dealer.

Mine had this fault as well.

It was under warranty, and they did it and also changed the thermostat.

I take it as the sensor is a common fault, the thermostat didn't relly need doing?

Anyone know?

It's not unheard of for the thermostats to go - I'm guessing the dealer would've had good reason to change it...

I've removed the electrical clip from the exisiting one, but how to I remove the other clip, which is holding it in place?

search the forums on coolant temp sensor, theres a thread with a link in it of a guide of how to change it.

Pull it out to the side, its a horse shoe shaped clip.

Damn! Too late! lol

I snapped the clip, not the horseshoe shpaed one, but the actual bit where it sits! Temporary mended it, until i can get a new section of the pipe. :(
