Yes.

Like most software these days: what is on disc is usually a few revisions behind the latest version.

Cable came with a CD but updates are all off the internet

Is it worth 260 quid though. Its alot of money for a just a cable

It'll pay for itself in no time though. And if you ever sell your car you will get most of the £260 back when you e-bay the genuine cable.

It is more than just a cable - it is a sophisticated portable diagnostic tool which is being constantly developed and updated. I say that having owned one for 8 years. :)

It's not "just a cable" though, it's the physical manifestation of the time and effort gone in to creating VCDS. The cable *is* your VCDS license. It's the support you'll get from Ross-Tech, and on here, for buying the genuine product and supporting development for future versions. Have a look through here for when people have posted with fakie ones, there'll be no sympathy from anyone and a lot of abuse from everyone.

If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it. Look on the owners map for someone close to you that will code the car for you instead.

As far as I know, everyone who has bought it thinks it's worth it.

What exactly are you expecting?

Mine has paid for itself twice over just on the Golf, it had numerous issues and has been valuable to diagnose issues, it then comes into its own when you can click on the red line of fault code and the next window opens up in the right place to rectify the issue, tomorrow I am recalibrating a steering position sensor, a job that costs approx £175 for VW to do if they just calibrate but 9 times out of 10 they fit a new sensor also, this is more than the cable.

I was dubious about buying the cable at first as I too thought it is very expensive for a piece of wire with a plug, as stated above though, the back up and service is a whole lot more than a cable, you also get the software updates as new cars are manufactured the software will keep up.

Buy it and see the benefits yourself.

Got my cable from Marshall's with a case, top service, and the cable has paid for itself already sorting out my father in law's fabia woes against dealer prices, so anything it does on my car now I'm in pocket. :giggle:

Lost count of how many friends have asked me to look at their cars, but at the moment I am declining, as I am still learning how to use it.

Hope it helps

Phil

All the positive comments are appreciated!  Thanks.  We keep trying to make VCDS and our services better!

Got my set from Gendan too, the one with extra 2 cable heads, 299.
