Sticking brakes monte 11 plate

Featured Replies

Clear Enough, the Technician that Serviced the Car has ticked that he cleaned the rear drums out,

which means he removed the Drums or he claims to have.

Did a visual Inspection, or should have done.

?? How long after the Service did the Tyre Centre require the heavy Mallet to get the rear wheels off?

Just tell the Work Shop Manager & the Dealership Manager about the service and the Wheels having the reaction,

steel and alloy welding them selfs together. so quickly after being re-fitted

by their member of staff. (Galvanic Corrosion.)

If it turns out that the wheels were never off,

get them to do a full service,  by their Master Tech.

you need to check the New Air Filter was actually put in.

& You always trust that the spark plugs are changed, and not just charged for.

Contact Skoda UK Customer Services if it turns out they are playing loose with Customers Safety when it comes to Brake Inspections..

Did you get 4 new tyres fitted, or just a pair  & new ones put to the rear & rears moved to the front.?

(refering to your post #12 on tyres and the wheels needing a thump to get them off.

only 2-3 weeks after the service @ which they had been off,

& in June/July,

not like there was lots of salt on the roads..)

Tyres done 6/7 and 8/8 two at a time.

Now the front two were near the limit and o/s/r had the buldges.

So i removed the had the o/s/r removed and worse of the frnt two changed on 6/7 (o/s/r being the brakes with the issue) in july.

Then it was quite tough to shift. Both new tyres were on the frnt and best of the frnts was put on rear till 8/8 when both rears were replaced too. Again both rears required some assistance in getting off.

I fairly convinced issue is down to skoda. As you say since they were inspected its been a couple month of pretty good weather so i cant imagine any outside factors have caused the issue and even if they had i cant seeing being acceptable on a car 2years old

A problem/situation I used to encounter after the service being done, rear drums Not removed.

The adjustments were done on the handbrake cable only. Not good.

So its possible they have over adjusted the Cable.

If you take the Drums off, clean, & adjust the adjusters inside the Drums this in turn brings your Handbrake into an adjusted position. Better.

Needs an honest pro mechanic to check & report. Not a difficult job.

This Technician/Fitter has ticked 'Clean the drums of the rear brakes'.

& that is not the exterior of the brake drums he was supposed to have done..

It is very doubtful that 3-4 weeks during the summer months after the Alloy Wheels have been off the car to remove the Drums,

that the same wheels will be difficult to remove.

Mr D.Crank will need to be asked what he did when he did the 'Clean the drums of the rear brakes',

then the OP will be some the wiser.

If the Service Advisor does the Ticking without knowing if the work was actually done & not the Technician ticking the boxes,

, then that is an other Unsafe Practice and Fraudulent since the Customer is paying for it to have been done..

Crash, this certainly needs looking into. By the way...make sure you get the dealership to deglaze the brake shoes or replace them. Getting too hot as they clearly are will have caused the glazing and this will lower braking performance and increase braking noise. Like everyone is saying, it doesn't sound as if the rear hubs have been off. To be honest, damage to the hydraulics is very rare through heat build up but it can happen but you would certainly know something was wrong well in advance of any failure because you would normally see smoke coming from the rear hubs/drums and you will feel the car not performing correctly. That's how hot they normally need to get.

Phoned the dealer this morning. Wednesday is the earliest they can look at.

Now ive kept it simple and just explained the problem.

I didn't want to get people backs up by accusing them of not removing the drums.

Il await what they and give them the chance to rectify it.

Should they try and charge me anything then Il kick up a Lil.

But first things first Il check the air filter tonight to make sure that was done

Good idea. Tread gently and explain fully to the dealership what is and has happened and maybe that a 'mistake' has occurred.

I think there's some conflicting information being given out via Skoda here.

That weblink states the wheels are removed and brakes inspected, however I'm pretty certain the service ticksheets that ELSA spews out doesn't mention anything specifically about removing the wheels at all?

Post #25 in this thread shows the Health Check sheet, 'SERVICE PROOF', last page,

from the 'Inspection service done'. on the vehicle in this thread.

'Clean the drums of the rear brakes',

which really needs the wheels taken off to remove the rear drums over the Shoes.

Signed & names given for the Technician and the Service Advisor, & Paid for by the customer.

if not done then it should be deleted and a note made.

Well due to my working hours being longer then my local dealers and distance between them and my work i had to drop it of Tues evening,

So i posted my keys thru a drop box in the workshop door in an envelope with a brief note explaing the fault (no reference to the possible suspicion. That hubs had not been off)

Skip forward today approx 11:55 i get a call from the dealer "afternoon Mr Rooney just a quick call to confirm your car is all done ready for collection. The fault was a broken return spring. So we have fitted new shoes and fitting kit all under warranty for you" perfect :)

And they have even allowed me to collect the car after hours leaving a key with petrol station on their site (run by the same company).

So very trouble free job thank you Sherlodge :) and thanks to guys for you input and advice

Wheels should only be removed at 20k service just visual inspection will be done ( this is what skoda stipulates) however most of the dealers remove the wheels and clean the brakes as there has always been an issue with rears hubs and fronts becoming near welded to alloys, the dealer charges you £80-100 for the pleasure :)
