Rarrrp - Tssst. CAI / Uprated DV? Which/Both?

Featured Replies

So,

My Mk1 vRS is on its way, I'll be collecting it soon.

I love dump valve noise, what does the standard sound like? Is there any need to upgrade the DV or would fitting a CAI improve the sound any?

Cheers

-Rob

Leave standard valve alone and fit a cone filter induction kit

Im a new vrs owner and I have a forge split R valve on mine without any induction and it sounds really good, but people on here have more experience than me. So I may live to regret having it, CAI is nxt on list,

Atmospheric dump valves can cause problems, and they are complete ball cocks!

Guy up the road from me has an A4 with a daft body kit and one, sounds awful.

Subtle mods with abit of noise is ok in my book, but going all fast and furious style is a no go. The vrs is a good looking motor and sounds throaty, you will enjoy it with whichever dv valve you choose. Just make sure its right for the engine or like trundlenut says you will get problems

Forge designed the valve to be used on the 1.8t so there is no problem with them. I have used mine on my mk1 vrs with no problem for over a year. I have put my original one back on the car as our lass isn't keen on the noise as she drives it every day for work so I had no choice in the matter............. If you are after one let me know. I also run this valve on my Audi S2 with no problem and people also said you can't use them, I had it on that car for over a year before I sold it.

Yep hybrid dump valves work fine(had a gfb one on for years)however I was advise they don't work to well on remapped engines,I never tried mine as replaced it with a forge 007p valve because the noise does grate after a while

Hello the dv from your octy.... is it available to buy? if so what are you looking for it? and whats the model no:

I'm a big fan of hks ssqv and greddy type s being a long time jap scooby skyline owner so my CHAV side takes over but tbh I'm gettin to the stage now I've got my forge split R on full recirc and just enjoy the chatter of the WG sounds awsome...

It's pot luck wether they throw eml on I've nevr had that problem on 4 of the 1.8t's I've had but tbh I've got the forge one on and I'm sticking to that and going to up rate the spring . I've found any bov/ dump valves other than forge or the baileys one gives a bit of a hesitation on boost

Forgive my stupidity big drank but how do you set it for full recirc? I know on standard car its 16 clicks. But other then that I know nuttin

Big deano not drank god dam phone :|

The Forge Split-r valve is designed to work with cars from the VAG group like the 1.8 T, so you will have no problem running one.

The way to make any DV (even std one) sound better is fit a CAI. That will transform the noise to  much more meaningful one.

Really? I fitted a Pipercross Viper to mine and it made it sound quieter  Now the car just sounds like a girl sneezing

have to show you mine lol but as said open filter makes a mega difference

I've got a big carbonio and a 007P and mine makes loads of noise. Fulfils my inner child. Lots of BOV noise and throaty induction. Gets my vote.

Even the std DV with a open CAI gives great noise...

Well, I have this setup:

Forge re-circ dumpvalve

Pipercross replacement panel filter

And a Revo re-map

And the 'dump noise' is way enough for my inner-child, and enough to be heard and noticed outside the car, without sounding ridiculous like a bloody Stephenson Rocket steam train! :D

I guess the filter made most of the difference. But anyway, driving home from the re-map and the installation of these parts, I could not believe how loud the dump now sounded. Inside the car, it is obvious but not intrusive whilst driving ormally - just enough for you to hear that the turbo is doing it's thing and all is well. When driving at full-chat, I think the noise is enough to make anyone smile.

Same when driving through town with the windows down for instance. Drive normally = stealth mode. But leave a set of traffic lights a bit smartish, with a wall or buildings to the side of the road = turbo woosh and satisfying dump noise, bouncing off the walls back into the car (and enough to make a pedestrian look round at the unusual sound) but not so loud as to make you / your car sound like a Mc. Donald's car park chav refugee...

Lastly, yeah I agree that the stock DV does a 'good enough' job...but it CAN be prone to failure. I am happy that my investment in my Forge item bought me:

Reliability

A nicer noise

And a bit of under-bonnet bling that isn't too obvious at first glance - it JUST about pokes out a little from under the back corner of the engine cover to reveal it's bling - but not in your face! I like it.

It's been on my mapped car for about 2 years now, and last week I removed it to give it a once-over. When I dismantled it, it looked pretty good all round, just with a little soot and oil inside. Half an hour on the bench with some spray carb-cleaner had it looking as good as new again, and internally it also looks as new.

I then re-greased the seals and packed the gap between them with new grease, re-assembled and re-fitted it, and it carried on working as well as ever. It's nice to know I have a 'fit and forget' part on the boost side of things, that will quite probably never let me down or cause problems ever.

Actually the stock DV is quite reliable. Have to remember these cars are old now so an original one is probably way due a change.

Also the newer OEM DV have undergone a change and are now produced with a stiffer spring and internals. They are way less likely to leak believe it or not than any aftermarket one.

Excellent thread.. Mine has open induction.. But sadly atmospheric dv, which yawnes when I spool up but let off before boost.. So maybe ill fit Oem and save for hybrid valve..

Is it true if buying oem to buy audi over vag/ skoda due to quality? Sorry trying to keep on topic

They are all the same

Righto then, the plan is to get a CAI at the earliest opportunity, I presume just throwing a K&N cone on the end is appropriate?
