I agree about modding the Jimny.  😞

Is this Jimny modded enough to, ahem, float your boat?

It's so sad that Suzuki have such a big/little hit on it's hands with the Jimny and now more or less have to withdraw it from sale in the EU. It beggars belief that they didn't figure its high emissio

  • 6'6" and my wife is 5'11", we pulled on a Jimny like a coat.

That's very clever

If Donald Trump keeps scapping low emission legislation in the US then Suzuki will be able to flog loads of them there.

So now the Jimny is confirmed is no longer being sold in the UK (current orders are being delivered though) and only a vague chance of a commercial version coming back to these shores, how did Suzuki manage to screw up what has been a mini sales sensation? They must have known emissions was going to kill it, the press was saying emissions would kill such cars even before it was even launched, so I assume during development of the new Jimny this must have come up. I still can't believe they aren't able to engineer a small modern and efficient engine to fit N-S in this car. If the car had slightly better performance, improved economy and green-friendlyish emissions you would think it might be a bigger sales success that it was with its current configuration. I realise that aerodynamics will be poo if it keeps it's lovely looks, but an up to date engine and maybe a little hybrid help would improve matters considerably. Come on Suzuki, sort yourselves out and bring back the most desirable vehicle you have made in years!

Totally agree -a 1.0 or 1.4 Boosterjet SHVS in it would be great and would surely meet emissions requirements (the Swift 1.0 SHVS is 97g/km and is tiny so you'd think there would be a way of making it fit).

I would have loved one. A nice 1.4 would make a great retirement car :)

The 'Mild Hybrid / Smart Hybrid Vehicle' is available with the Ignis & also AWD, just not that and an Automatic all in the same vehicle.

The decision not to have this with the Jimny is purely Suzuki's, or Toyotas, or whoever are actually in charge.

True but the shvs Ignis and swift are the old 1.2 non-turbo and having driven one they are a bit lacklustre.  A 1.0 boosterjet in an Ignis would be great as well though and should be even easier as it's the same heartech platform as the swift

The point is that they fit, and so can whatever Suzuki wanted to really, space is not an issue.

With the last generation Jimny's i had one with a 1.4 Yaris Engine and another with a 1.5 Ignis.

At one point it had a 2.0 litre Vauxhall Carlton auto fitted.

The commercial Jimny with a 1.5 diesel was available in Irish Republic but sadly not in the UK.

I'll be honest, I was initially drawn to the Jimny as a cheap 4x4 with some genuine off-road cred and ended up smitten with it's looks.

I know a man with an Aventador SVJ and many other fantastic cars (his current favourite for the last year is the Alpine) and I asked him, as I thought he was a man with wide-ranging and considerable car buying experience, if he thought you could buy a car for just one thing, in that case it was could you buy a Mustang just for the sound of the engine..."hell yes" was more or less his surprising  reply. Makes me wonder if you can buy a Jimny just for it's looks, seems many thought so :)

The asking price for the 5 new and nearly new Jimny Autos on Autotrader is up above £25,000 and people have paid that sort of price,

the thing is that if anyone does really want them they are there to be bought.

Only time will tell how many owners of ones now will have them for keepers for a decade or 2.

The front is hideous isn't it

Bank taken by surprise because a Car Reviewer is actually buying a car with their own money.

Looks like eventually gets one, but will he Supercharge it?

Looking forward to him taking his own one offroad and racing about and not worrying about damage as 'It is only a Jimny!'.

It might only be a Jimny but they're not cheap cars. Would be nice to to worry about a £24k motor

Exactly what i was saying.  Long Term loaner & 'Only a Jimny'.  Now he has his own in Black, does he treat it as he treated someone elses?

Why do they call them Portal Axles when the vehicle retains its existing axle and simply has reduction hubs fitted?

Maybe because the ratio is 1:1 so no reduction, "geared hubs" perhaps?

I think it's because they resemble a portal frame...
