Video Suzuki Jimny vs Land Rover Defender.

Featured Replies

I've been watching this thread as I do like the new Jimny.  I have to say though that I agree with the vivavitara forum review that Suzuki have missed a trick in both the Jimny and the Ignis in not fitting the Boosterjet engines.  I really rate the one in my Swift, with the SHVS system and think an Ignis or Jimny with the same set up would be great.

It's so sad that Suzuki have such a big/little hit on it's hands with the Jimny and now more or less have to withdraw it from sale in the EU. It beggars belief that they didn't figure its high emissio

  • 6'6" and my wife is 5'11", we pulled on a Jimny like a coat.

Fine as a Jimny City Car.  They might as well do a fwd version with all the looks as they will suit many buyers.

They turn them out on rubbish OEM tyres as they have done for 20 years.

They might do that 'efficient engines' at later date as what they built is for ROW and not to suit low emissions.

They can only sell limited numbers in Europe because of the ridiculously high emission of the Manual and more so the Auto.

My Jimny Auto's with 1,328cc & Auto drank like Oliver Reid and cost me lots in VED, but that was not the point of them, it was about function over style and longevity.

New Jimny has too much electrics for me, too much issues sadly, and going to Air Lockers, disabling airbags etc is for the future in the UK if any such thing can get through future MOTs.

I can see why the new Jimny might disappoint fans of the original, but it still never ceases to amaze me what it can do for the money. It's a bit like the last M3 being turbo charged, it's a more accomplished vehicle than it's forbear, but you still hanker after the old n/a V8 :)  Well I do, but I do like a proper V8 :)

Still the new Jimny is the cutest car on sale today by a country mile and even though I feel ashamed to admit it, I'd love one just for the looks  :blush

Anyhoo here is a bit more of the usual giant killing...

The New Jimny has done wonders for the money sellers of the last Generation Jimny can get.

They are a bit like the Original Fabia vRS (Mk1's)  or Land Rovers pre and post Defenders, people want them still.

I saw a new Jimny on the road the other week. A blue one. It looked good, quite different.

But if I was in the market for an industrial, uncomfortable, expensive unreliable 4x4 I'd still probably chose a Defender.

yes but it would be nicked inside a fortnight. :crying:

There's a chance you could run down the street after the Jimny and catch it.

Actually that's probably true for a Defender too :D

Defenders, Jimny's, Jeeps etc are a constant worry concerning their theft.

Dacia Duster / Vitara / Navara etc much less so, but then it just takes someone to take a fancy to them and away they go.

I suspect you will be able to add the 'new' Defender to the Dacia Duster/Vitara/Navara list 😞

At least the Defender would breakdown before it got too far. Jimny would probably get a bit further before it ran out of fuel. A mile or two maybe.

Doesn't float my boat that new one.

As usual no proper research just publish past errors.

There was certainly not only one engine.

There were 1,298 Single Overhead Cam 8 valve engines & 1,328 cc Double Overhead Cam 16 valve engines and also 1,328 cc DOHC 16 valve VVT engines.

(Also 1.5 Ddis (diesels) as sold in Ireland and other countries but not in the UK, but some vans and window versions made it here. )

Smart people would get the Automatic, and then not have to put up with what journalists slagged Jimny's for over the years,

just better the ones with the transfer box shifter and the buttons.  So pre 2005. and bought on condition...

Ouch that's steep

Although if I was 18 and had a rich parent/sugar daddy, I'd probably have been very happy with one at any price. Mind you if I had rich parents i would already have got a a Mexico 1800 for my 17th :D

I had to stop watching this after 1:47 when I suddenly became aware I was turning into my dad....

Came across this weird video today. It's a 'pull off' have I just invented that or is it something I once read on a porn site :D :blush

Anyhoo it's a G wagon trying to win a tug of war with a Cayenne and then a Bentaygagagaga. it's a little interesting because the G Wagon has 3 x locking diffs and the Bentley has none apparently (I guess it uses Land/Range Rover type cleverness). Also the towing point is off centre on the Bentley. Sadly I didn't get a proper view of the tyres they used, but it is closer than I thought it would be. BTW it is not a twin car vs Glenda-Jackson (G63) pull off

As long as they are having fun.

I wondered why they didn't try the Grand Tour trick (or was it Top Gear?) by putting the Jimnys in a line.
