new cr vrs estate owner, coming over from fabia vrs.

Featured Replies

Pick up my new motor next week, 59 plate vrs estate in silver. This is where the questions start, sorry if some have been asked before. Black grill? What do people think about these on a silver vrs? Does an exhaust swap make a difference to the cr noise wise? Am I right you can get a twin pipe one for an estate? (Pipe either side of car) does the auto changer come as standard in the face lift model? Anyone put a roof rack on the roof rails? Has anyone got any pics of this? No doubt there will be more when I think of them. I'll post a pic and some more on Tuesday when I pick it up. Cant wait.

Congratulations. Interest to hear what you think of it compared to your Fabia.

Loads of people use roof bars on the rails. I have a £26 set of Lidl bars that I use with my roofbox......they work great. If you want to leave the bars on all the time, consider a set of wisperbars.....they look great but at a price.

My first impressions when I drove it was it was as fast, if not faster then my remapped fabia. Which I was surprised about. Expected it to be slower. Also the brakes where amazing. A billion times better then my Octavia brakes I had put on mine which I also found a bit odd. Let's say I'm very happy all round. Just need to get used to the size with it being an estate

Congrats on the new car, be careful you don't get lost in there. I came from the Mk1 Furby VRS world too

Is yours an estate?

Quite a common misconception when coming from a Fabia.......the Fabia is actually pretty heavy car, so even mapped will struggle to keep up with an Octavia vRS.

Yeah but a my fabia is mapped to 179 bhp and 340 pound of torque. So how can an Octavia with 170 horses and 250 pound ish of torque feel faster? I'm confused?

What are those "my fabia's" like....  :giggle:

I guess a lot of it has got to do with gearing.........as soon as you map a Fabia the gear ratios are no longer optimum for the power output.......ideally you'd want higher gearing to make better use of the increased power and torque. A factory Octavia with 170bhp presumably has optimum gearing for the torque and power of it's engine hence the increased performance.

So in a way high remap figures are really a waste?

I wouldn't say it's a waste, your mapped Fabia vRS will be a lot quicker than a standard Fabia vRS regardless of the gearing issue.

But compared to a car that comes out of the factory with similar bhp to your map (ie Octavia vRS) you just struggle to match that performance. Just get the Fabia mapped to 210bhp!

IIRC, CR vRS has 350 Nm of torque.

Sarge.

He's talking in lb-ft though. The CR vRS has 258 lb-ft of torque.

At least I think he's talking foot pounds.......can you really get 340 foot pounds of torque from a 1.9 pd?

Yup my fabia had 340 foot pound of torque with graph to prove it. Just on a standard remap but with a better clutch

Mike,

The Auto changer is built into the head unit (bolero) also comes with SD card slot for more music. Don't know about the exhaust but if you want a custom one making up there's a place in tontine,Upholland.

Enjoy your new toy.

No dual outlet is only possible with the loss of the rear towing eye. Has been done by a member on here albeit the hatch. Look underneath and you will see the problem. Noise is mixed some say it does and some say it doesn't I've no personal experience to answer either way.

I've got black on my white combi, looks ok but its all down to personal taste.

Yes roof bars car be fitted many members have done this.

Also ex remapped mk1 fabia owner and overall the octavia is quicker.
