Any good. 1.8 Turbo SLXI?

Featured Replies

As many of you know I have lost my job so had to sell my VRS.  I have been offered a 1999 Octy 1.8 turbo SLXI for very cheap. It has 133k, no history and the guy who owns it said it has had a new clutch but no proof of this.  What are the 150bhp Octys like to drive as in performance compared to the VRS, is there a big difference and is the MPG a bit better or a lot better than the VRS?

Cant tell you how slxi compares to vrs, but I have had one since 2000

They map to just short of 200hp mine was done many years ago

my fuel is 30mpg for a 5 mile commute and 35 on longer runs can reach 40mpg if you try

so I would say fuel consumption is not much different to vrs

Leather seats are a bit slippy and cold in winter (although they are heated)

I like mine, although I have had a few problems this year normal Octavia stuff

Electric window regulators

Wiper pivots seized

Blowing gasket between turbo and manifold

Seized rear caliper

All gauges dead

Everything now fixed

Looking forward to some reliability

Go for it.

the engines are the same (i might be wrong) the turbo is less powerful.

And you can still mod it :-)

kind of defeats the money saving reason you sold your vrs for ... you wont see much of a difference in fuel or maintanance costs  in my opinion buddy

Could you describe the noise of blow gasket as i wonder if its possible it could be the problem on mine

A bit like an air cooled beetle, not really loud, could hear more when driving with the window down

£ 90 to a new gasket fitted, relieved as I thought it could have been a cracked manifold

Could you look at my topic titled help there a linl on there to a video of my noise and comment if its the same please
