Suspension issues

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've had a mk1 skoda estate tdi for the past year and am now looking at upgrades, maintaining stuff. Im having issues with the suspension though. Can't seem to find a thread about this, anyone help me out?

I've replaced the entire front: springs, dampers, top suspension bearings and arms with new bushes. The top of the suspensions where the tops bolt on under the bonnet seems to be 2cm higher than it needs to be. The metal retaining cap with the rubber ring does not seem to tighten up properly.

There is a knocking noise at low speeds over small bumps in the road. I've read this could be the arb bushes which I have still to check/replace.

Just wondered if anyone could shed some light on the top mount plate issue as it doesn't look entirely safe to drive.

Another question: does anyone have a thread for the tt/seat front end swap? Interested in looking at this as a future option.

I've got a mk1 cadd and had a mk1 golf for 4 years before that so I'm used to a project.

Either the front struts haven't been put together properly or the top mounts are shafted causing the strut to poke out the top of the hole ...also the clunk your hearing would most likely be arb bushes or next on my list would be the radiator bushes at the bottom

I have some power flex top mounts for sale if your interested

Good luck :)

New top mounts when the suspension was done. All put back correct as I've checked on 2 different sites now.

On a TDi this is normal. If the top plates were sitting down on the turrets it would be a sign that the springs were bad.
