Dsg mpg

Featured Replies

Can people let me know what mpg they are getting form dsg diesels, as thinking of getting one but don't wont mpg to be any worse than my Octavia 2 manual diesel.

I think you can bet it will be worse than a manual manages!

How much so, we'll wait and see from other replies.

What engine?

Had a 2009 Golf MK6 CR 140 6 speed manual for a few years as a company car. It religiously did mid-late 50 mpg.

My 2013 Blackline CR 170 DSG estate might make mid late 40's on a run but barely ever betters 50.

My personal view is that the manuals are a fair bit better, never mind the fact that the 6 speed DSG's generally are a higher tax band than the equivalent manual. I only really got another DSG because the wife likes autos and I didnt want a car without a multi-function steering wheel.

On 1.6 TDi with 7 speed DSG the long term average is 52mpg - that's with just over 2,000 miles driven.

2.0 TDI with 6 speed DSG.  40mpg urban, 48 mpg motorway.  1,200 miles driven.

1.6 DSG mainly motorway 6000 miles avergae is showing 54.

would not go back to a manual at the moment with the driving I do, and as this is more economical than my old 2.0 L&K DSG even if i am not getting as good an MPG as the manual, I think I am still saving £30-40 a month (if not more)

DSG all the way

At just 1200 miles the engine will still be tight so you can't really judge it yet.

You did see this thread didn't you?  Started on 10th September.

I've gone from a Passat B6 2.0 PD 140 manual to an Octy III 2.0 CR 150 DSG and I'm seeing pretty much exactly the same mpg (50) reported on the Octy with 60 miles on the clock to the Passat with 60,000. This is on my regular commute whizzing down B roads. I've not had it on the motorway yet.

Obviously I'm expecting it to improve with time. The Passat took AGES to loosen up.

I'm really impressed with my 2.0 DSG. Long term average 50 mpg but that includes a good amount of fast driving on the German autobahns. I was getting 56mpg on 40 mile journeys across Wiltshire the other week.

cr 170 dsg 45 to 53 going to work 15miles motorway and single road no traffic....i start at 4 am

but ive ordered a new mk3 vrs diesel but with manual box.....auto in my truck fine....

dsg,,not for me...it hesitates too much and whats the point of putting it in manaual when it wont let you pick the gear you want,,,

I do about 100,000 miles a year in my truck and car but just dont like the dsg box

2.0 DSG Elegance Estate; first tankful fill showed 55mpg.  Computer said 51mpg, so about 5% pessimistic.  I noticed that economy dropped with cold weather than arrived this week.  Early week economy computer read out showed 55.6mpg average for 40 mile drive (air temp 16 deg C).  The same journey with 110 miles consumption from tank (ie. 8kg drop of rolling mass) saw 50.1mpg (for 8 deg C).  I was looking at the online manual earlier and saw that colder ambient air will drop the economy (although counter intuitive on air density, i.e. more oxygen into combustion, the engine clearances and oil viscosity will cause internal drag losses in the motor).

This car is going to cost me £70 per month less than my 2.0DSG 4x4 Yeti Elegance which I part-exchanged.  There is a large (self-funding?) difference between the Yeti and the Octavia III.

The above test/running data was where I used normal mode running, 15 miles A road, 28 miles motorway and using 70mph cruise control for the most part.  This is my daily commute.

My new octavia vrs tdi dsg, i have filled up this morning and in my first tank i have done 40.9mpg (worked out on an app not based on trip), this was mainly 40mph and 30mph town driving with the odd 60mph country road to work. The car now has 320mile on it so expect it to rise dramatically as seems to be the same as my mk2 manual tdi i had.

Im going on a 350mile motorway run tomorrow so will update with what it does on that.

Granted mine is still loosening up but after 700 miles, my 2.0 Elegance DSG has had some pretty ****-poor mileage. Looking at 35-40 MPG average. It's not my driving style as I was getting 55-60 in 1.6 dsgs.

Really hoping it gets better because this is bad.
