Is my car remapped?!

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a MkI Superb (AWX) and the reason I ask is that after I have changed to a K&N panel filter and done the elephant hose CCV mod, the car feels waaaaay better than the 130BHP would suggest...in fact, it feels very similar to my old, remapped MKIV Golf 150pd

So, would any of you guys have an idea of what the ECU should state if standard (or indeed, remapped) ?

I have a Bluetooth OBDII reader that should be able give me an idea of the ECU build version etc...

Thanks for your help!

P.s. I know a rolling road would give me more of a definitive answer, performance wise...but sadly don't have the funds at this time

Stick to the standard air filter for optimum filtration efficiency and flow and also to avoid filter oil contaminating the MAF. For an engine in good condition, modifying the crankase breather achieves nothing. Your car almost certainly had a blocked original element - the VAG schedule for renewal is a nonsense.

I have tested a few AWX and AVF engines in the course of my work and most will comfortably exceed their rated output. The torque curve of an AWX gives more useful drivability that the AVF when mated to a manual transmission - the AVF has a narrower curve with a higher peak, which is not very useful. Just occasionally I see an AWX which goes really well if the torsion value (KW) is optimised. I have one of these - which was one reason for buying it.

The 150PS ARL engine is a camshaft-eating dog. A good AWX will outrun it any day.

rotodiesel.

I suppose you could look at the boost using the ODB reader, but surely for £40 you could get it on a rolling road to confirm..

I had a Passat with the AWX engine, it pulled like a train and felt much more than the 130 it said it should be.

Log boost. Stock is 1.35bar.

Appreciate the replies folks:)

I'll stick to the K&N, as I prefer the throatier sound it seems to give and I clean the MAF frequently in any case...

The CCV mod did seem to have a profound affect on the car's power- so each to their own on these points! :)

EGR delete next by the way...oooh er!

And Roto, I can completley confirm, the camshaft dissolving is what killed off my ARL ownership

Will check the boost when the mrs brings it back from shopping and see what's what. Cheers all!

The AWX will always put out 5 to 15 bhp more than what it should. I've had several 1.9 PD engines chipped and i've yet to see a stock engine not getting above 135 bhp on rolling road.

I'll second this. My AWX is remapped and when I got the rolling road print out back, stock output was about 150bhp so the remap only gave me an extra 20bhp instead of the advertised 50bhp. I jokingly tried to get some money off for the loss of the expected 30bhp but they didn't budge. They said the VAG diesels always push out more than the manufacturer's figures.

It's lovely to drive on motorways now - overtaking's a breeze

Or log max fuelling (mg/injection) via your BT OBD module and post it here.  APply full throttle in 4th gear from 2000 to 4000 rpm if safe to do so, and see what it's reading.

Approaching 60 mg you bet it's been remapped.  Stock is around 50, but changes with speed.
