Problems Fitting 19" BBS Speedline...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, long time lurker and one of the first posts that I am putting up..  and it's a problem :-)

Hopefully not a big one..

I was sort of inbetween cars, had a Golf R32, sold that and bought a Golf R..  I moved location with my job and ended up doing silly miles..  Sold the Golf R and I found myself at the auctions with the remit to get a cheapo TDI VW saloon or estate...  I ended up buying a 54 plate Octavia Ambiente Saloon 1.9 TDI / DSG.. It's cheap to run and it goes ok so it ticked the boxes..  So far it's been good although it's still on the standard wheels and wheel trims... YUK!!

I had a set of 19" BBS Speedline (Audi) wheels in the garage..  They are 9"x19" and ET41..

Thing is they fit fine on the front of the car but on the rear they are hitting what looks like the plastic cover of the shock absorber on the rear..

I know I need spacers but I was wondering if anyone had any idea what type?  What thickness and where is the best place to get them from?

The next thing will have to be a set of coilovers!!

Cheers

Steve

19" BBS's on an Ambiente - isn't that a bit overkill!?

I'd sell them and get some 18's that'll go straight on and pocket the change for other mods.

I'd px them with me for my vRS Zeniths ;)

I believe JaVa of these parts has 19" Audi Speedlines/BBS wheels. I think they do different offsets but I recall seeing something about him having problems with rubbing...

Yes, i have the 9x19" speedlines with ET41 on my combi. Only thing the tyres were hitting was the outer edge of the fender with 235/35R19 specs. When i changed them to 225/35R19 the problem was solved. I think there is a lot clearance between the wheel and plastic cover of the shock absorber. My previous setup with 9.5x19" ET45 was closer to the absorber but that didn't rub on it either so i don't know why it is doing so on Dubbedub's car. If you put spacers with those speedlines, you won't be able to go low. Even with 215/35R19 they will rub hard. Not to mention that the load rating on those tyres are not suitable for octy.

Thanks all for your replies...

Java, I have just sent you a PM so ignore it :-)

I can only think that the estate has a different suspension set up at the back hence why you are clearing and I am not..

Here is what I am aiming for...

Looks like in that picture car is not equipped with 9x19 ET41 speedlines. I'm guessing those are 8.5x19 ET48 with spacers or something like that.

Here's my setup from rear perspective:

It seem's that in my setup the wheels come more out than in that image Duppedub posted. It is possible though that the perpective's fools me in this case...

Edit: Pic is with 235/35R19 tyre, that i since changed to 225/35R19 and i don't have a similar picture of them.
