Servicing: Dealer, Jabba or JBS?

Featured Replies

The 1000 mile service indicator warning has just come on. The cars done just over 17000 miles, and is set to variable servicing (Octy vRS). This will be its first service.

Now does it matter who services the car? Who would do a better job? Is it basically an Oil change/oil filter change?

I think JBS quoted around

If the work is carried out by a VAT-registered mechanic using genuine parts, then legally Skoda can't invalidate your warranty.

Not sure on the other questions, but it's likely that your dealer will have a higher labour rate than JBS or Jabba...

Rob.

Hi

With the introduction of block excemrtion you can have your car serviced anywhere as long as they are VAT registered and use GENUINE parts.

If you go on to variable serviceing you will require the Castrol oil which retails quite high , but if you do alot of miles will work out cheeper as you would be missing a service in effect.

Yes as you say it is basicly an oil and oil filter change.

But as it is first service it requires quite a few checks as this is the first inspection the car has after it has been under load and a few journeys.

Does anyone know how much Skoda dealers charge for a service? I think the oil retails at about

My 10k service at an Independant cost

Can anyone confirm for me exactly what is meant to happen when the car wants a service? Currently when I start up, a little "service" word flashes a couple of times and then goes away. Is this an early warning, the real thing, or just a self-test?

mine's saying something along the lines of 'service 1000 miles'. Do you have a vRS?

Yup. Sorry for the hijack. I even asked my dealer this question but they didn't give me a good answer - something along the lines of "is it like a little spanner?" - well, er, no, actually it isn't

think you get a 1000 miles warning before its due, thats what I'm getting before turning the key all the way to start the engine.

did you dealer say how much a service is?

No they didn't. It's going in next week for another issue - I will ask then.

not sure, actually... JBS like to comment?

Hi Nick

That service indicator should flash up service 1000 and it will then count down when you turn on the ignition each time (I think at 100 mile intervals ) ....not sure what happens if you go past it ....Probably starts shouting at you :D

As far as I can remember, all it's been doing is flashing on its own, no numbers involved :grumpy:

Sounds like Nick's car is on variable servicing....should say "service" and then disappear....quite easy to miss.

The long life oil works out to be around

Yes it's on variable servicing. So that means it just starts shouting with 0 miles to go? That's :pants:

PS yes I know, thanks. It's booked in next week.

Wiper blades are only a recomendation every 12 months.

The first variable service as said includes a pollen filter change as well as the usual oil nd filter.

Labour time is 2.2 hours for the service.

Methinks I could change some wiper blades, a pollen filter and the oil in a lot less than 2.2 hours - where does the rest of the time go? :rubchin:

Details of what the various types of service involve can be found in your car's Service Schedule, ie the service record booklet which is stamped whenever a service is carried out.

The rest of the labour is for inspecting numerous things on the car and I also think there's some lubrication of hinges etc..

Ooh Eddy, stop it, you're hurting me!
