Brake upgrade / replacement and tyre advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Fitted new standard rear disks and pads just over a month ago as one side had a disk flaking badly, just wanted it fixed for peace of mind...

Now though I feel like my fronts are not performing anything like when I first bought it. Check a month ago all fronts were fine, plenty of material left on everything.

Now though when I first start car up in the morning the brakes are a bit poor on performance for first minute drive (going down hills mostly) then after first 4 goes on breaks they are acceptable performance for rest of day until I go from from work... same again, brakes are pants for first 2 or 3 stops.......

Brake pedal seems to only go half way then its quite hard to push the pedal in any further...

New pads and disks needed or just a re bleed of system?

If new disks and pads what would people recommend for under £100 in parts?

I have considered going for bigger disks and pads but then do i need bigger callipers, any adaptors?

Also, front tyres have half the tread of the back, if i just swapped the wheels round would I have any problems? Want to put off new tyres for a while in case I get new alloys next month or after.

They are street legal, enough tread but any water on road and they are not acceptable. Bit too wheel spiny on take off.

Cheers for any advice :) P.s. car is a SKODA Fabia 1.9 TDI Comfort 2003.

I have Bosch discs and pads and they are good. Fairly priced too.

As for your tyres, they need replacing. Don't hold out on them or they might hold out on you.

Remember they are the only things in contact with the road.
