New clutch, Sachs, Helix, Darkside?

Featured Replies

My clutch has started to slip and I'm now looking to upgrade what are peoples experiences with these clutches?

Also how loud really is the chatter on a SMF, I know it wouldn't bother me but would it wake my family and neighbours when starting it up in the morning and clearing the frost say?

Cheers!

i had a darkside clutch kit fitted last night with a DMF and i cant fault it, im runnin 355lb torque and i have no complains at all mate

on their website it should say darkside clutch kit. Flywheel is separate. Ill find link in morning n post it on here. Phone wont let me do it

To be honest I have no idea. All I know it works perfectly and have never had any problems.

I ran 195bhp and 300lb/ft on a sachs and new standard dmf!

After 10k the dmf started to rattle, after 20k it took out the gearbox

So i fitted a helix and smf!

For me helix everytime

jase that doesnt sound promising at all

wierd how some have no issues and some have loads

i'll be going with the darkside kit when i upgrade my clutch, how much is labour for that job?

Awesome GTI quoted me £900 all in for a Helix clutch kit then a further £264 for fitting.

I'll be getting it fitted by Dirty Torque anyway :)

That's £30 cheaper than what I paid for the Helix SMF setup Dan.

Mardi gras Motorsport where jase got his from is cheaper Dan, also a few members have said ring them up and ask for the 'best' price they can give you, maybe be able to discount it ...

VAT and delivery costs to add on also don't forget ;-)

I rang Mardi Gras and they offered me no discount what so ever, when I asked for their "best price"

Luck of the draw it would seem.

CG Motorsport 6 paddle clutch with SMF here and nearly done 20k with no niggles to date :)

EDIT, running around 220bhp on a hybrid turbo.

What's the 6 paddle like for day to day driving?

Maradi gras wouldn't discount me either :(

Although the CG ones do look a lot of kit for the money :)

Helix and SMF for me as soon as I have the spare cash to do it. I'm not taking the risk and would rather spend more now than have to return to it at a later date, all because I picked a cheaper clutch...

Got quoted £1100 supplied and fitted by Unit 18 earlier this year. Was going to take them up on it, but then my turbo went pop first!!

Exactly my thoughts Alex_e3 that's why in the end I went for the Helix SMF.

And I also want to get the most out of my hybrid pd150 stage2 once mapped, I didn't want to be hindered by the OEM clutch and flywheel setup.

And end up paying and travelling to Jabbasport twice to tweak the map on the rollers.

They quoted me £890 inc VAT and fitting for the kit mentioned above - seemed like a good price to me.

It's fine - took some getting used to as it was initially quite grabby (in a good way!) Drives as normal now - apart from the chatter!

Oh and i also get discount from mardi gras as i've bought a few clutches from them :)

I've still got to fit mine but I bought the standard Sachs set up from CP4L for £300:

- Sachs DMF

- Sachs Clutch Kit

- Sachs Slave Cylinder

If it's your first order then use SAVEME75 for 7.5% discount.

Think I may have to invest when mine goes.
