Unusal help needed.

Thought I would start a thread on here as I feal like Briskoda has a huge wealth of knowledge on many different things. So heres where I need help.

I need to find somewhere to seel a Gibson Inventor medical spoon, I have search the internet and its dating anywhere between 1820-1860 ish.

I have been to a fair few local antiques dealers and there not much help.

So does anyone have an idea where best to sell this?

I'd suggest going to a local auction house and telling them what you've just told us. The should be able to tell you the date (and auctioneer if needed) for a specialist sale for stuff like this.

A google showed that the earliest examples of a 'Charles Gibson' Medicine Spoon are 1827.

He was a Siver-Goldsmith active from 1827-1835

 

Is yours silver & Hallmarked and is there a maker for it?

 Is it a 'Charles Gibson made Medicine Spoon' or just of the type by another maker?

If Silver see a Dealer in Antique Silver.

Mins Pewter with Gibson Inventor marked on the top surface. If I open the flap there appers to be 99 stamped in the bottom?

See, what I'm thinking is that this sort of thing is going to appeal more to specialist collectors than to Joe Public or even dealers unless they have a collector as a client.

I agree, think its going to have to be a specialist dealer collector somewhere. Now to try and find one lol

Do you expect it to be worth more than £50?   Has anyone made an offer on it when you have shown it to them?

 

Surely Ebay is the way that you reach that Specialist Collector.  Just List it correctly. 'Medicine Spoon' not Medical.

Then its 2 or more you are looking for to get the price going higher if they want it.
