Full engine rebuild quote what do u think?

Featured Replies

i wouldnt pull the engine apart unless it needed it to be honest, you can create more problems than you solve..

i agree with the above, if you are doing that sort of mileage leave it well alone in terms of modifications

It's got phase1 custom code. induction kit that I no of its running 22 psi max dropping to bout 17 I suspect it has more mods than I no about and it's bin this way for the last 40k without probs I don't no what's bin done to this car but its quick it leaves the golfs a3 s etc standing its far from standard

Kk thanks mate

PX and buy yourself a Fabia VRS

Day

or...better still fit a tdi lump in your engine bay...best of both worlds then!

STOP IT, all of you!

Do not fit a tdi lump. Just get it running right and get LPG on it. At 1000 miles a week it will have paid for itself in no time at all. Complete no brainer as the 1.8T will just keep on going and going if looked after. Mine has does 85k on LPG since I bought it(72k on the clock) ow on 158k and goes better now than ever..

Mines a 55 reg with 162k and LPG, goes like stink, costs 11ppm to run, and the engine is very strong. (LPG conversion cost £1000)

Would not recommend a rebuild unless something is seriously wrong. You can get an idea of the health of the engine by doing a compression test, if the compressions are good, but the top ends rattly, have the head reconditioned (at the same time as a cambelt change).

However the values of mk1 vrs's with high mileage is so low these days I would not poor large amounts of money into them.

i recon i can change mine to derv for quite a bit cheaper than i can fit lpg, plus i can take it on eurotunnel, plus ever been in a hybrid 1.9 derv...they are fun!!!

a rebuild is pointless....considering the price of a secondhand engine!!!

Hybrid derv won't be running 10p a mile though :D. Hybrid 1.8 though :D

I think my engine is ok cause it dont use no oil and it pulls hard no smoke I'm just waiting to see if the oil pressure warning light comes bk on that's what worrys me. since I replaced the strainer I've had no trouble but its early days I defo need to change most of the hoses etc its already remapped induction kit etc the performance is good especially low down toque it's goin in tomoz for diagnostics

good plan!

10p a mile, thats pretty epic!!

If I really have to ill get a low mileage engine for it but I don't think it's gonna come to that with no oil loss no fillings in the sump no lose of power I think it will be ok I was goin on worst scenario I defo need all new boost pipes breather pipes etc do any of u no where I can get a full silicon hose kit I looked on eBay there all separate ???

creation or forge do more complete sets

One thing I do need is a new exhaust so I might as get a decent high flow one as its already chucking out 22 psi on a standard exhaust I think it could do with higher flow what's best????

Engines good for quite a few miles yet!

When a rods out the side..then start to worry!

LOL

If you are boosting 22psi then you don't have any leaks! Well no big ones at least.

I have no major boost leaks but my breather pipes are nackered and all looking looking a bit skabby so ill replace the lot a front mount intercooler wouldn't do any harm ill look for one second hand must come with pipes fittings etc if anyone got one let me no the inlet pipe is always very warm

Seems rather pointless to rebuild, remember these engines were not built in the 70's or 80's when 100k was a good long life for an engine. My DERV is on 118k miles and I am certain it will break 200k no problem and hit 300k if looked after. For reference it did its first 60k miles with a racing parts company so I can't imagine it was treated with a /huge/ amount of respect in all honesty. Given how common the 1.8t is and how often you see high mileage (180k + ) ones for sale I think you should look at doing what some refer to as a stage 0 tune up. Replacing all consumables, any hoses that look suspect and generally giving it a bloody good clean. LPG isn't a bad idea either if you need MPG, would make it cheaper to run than the TDI I think in raw fuel costs.

Hi mate I have been considering an lpg conversion for a while. My biggest concern is do you loose any power on lpg?
