Radio fitting

Featured Replies

Today i have tried to replace my original radio in my car for an aftermarket one, I have done this job many times in other cars no problem today just a nightmare !!!!!

Getting the old radio no problem, First problem wiring needed alterations as power wire where different way round, which i new, Tried to remove them from ISO plug but they where having none of it !! so i bought an adaptor plug ( the cars ISO plug goes directly into the radio)

With the adaptor plug fitted all the wiring and radio works fine, but the radio will not go in and slot home  i have taken it out and put it back loads of times,

One thing i have noticed is the wiring goes into the other end of the stero and i wonder if its that causing me the problem but personaly i think its ok.

I have fitted the radio fine without any wiring connected to it.

I have even removed the glovebox so i can gain access to the wires and tease them out of the way !!

The nearest i can get is the left hand side clipping in but the rest doesnt.

There is a plastic portion in the back of the slot that needs chopping out. This then gives you enough room for all the wires associated with an aftermarket radio. Best thing to cut it out with is a hand held saw blade. The sort of model makers variety are ideal. Hope this helps.

Remove the glovebox and pull all the wires into the gap. Only 5x 20 torx screws to remove. Job done

I cut the plastic bit out with side cutters, Not pretty but affective !!!

I managed to fit in a ISO loom and my parrot carkit round the back of the back of the HU.  Took a bit of fiddling about - even with the glovebox out :-)

If you have a Dremel and a flexible drive, life gets a lot easier cutting that plastic bit out
