1.9tdi poss boost leak?

Featured Replies

Hi I have a superb 1.9 tdi auto and when it's in tip tropic mode and I have it in a high gear but a lot of engine load at about 1500 to 2000rpm the turbo starts to make some weird noises, I have shown it to my local turbo specialist and he said it sounds like an boost pressure leak but wants an extortionate rate to look at it,

I have visually checked the boost system from turbo to engine and all looks well (even looks like a newish intercooler) but there was a lot of oil deposits on the big valve on the left side of the engine, right on top of the turbo but protrudes past the engine cover.

Long story short, can anyone tell me where the common boost leak locations are on this engine please,

Thanks, Liam

short answer is 'anywhere theres a pressurised pipe'.  Check intercooler + inlet and outlet pipes,

easy answer is to use Vagcom and log the requested vs actual boost.  That'll instantly tell you if there's a leak

Big valve on engine on top of the turbo is the VNT actuator, if that's covered in oil then that's bad.  start checking around that area.
