Goodbye and Hello

Next week I say goodbye to my Superb Combi Elegance 170DSG and hello to my new Superb Combi L&K 170DSG - my sixth Skoda! (2 1st generation Octavias, 1 1Superb I and 1 Superb II saloon and now 2 combis.

Got a look at my new car as it arrived at the garage on Friday - still wrapped in swaddling but looks good. Should be able to get my hands on it early next week

My old Superb has only 32K (miles) on the clock and has been great. No mechanical difficulties - just a short circuit in the electrical outlets when new which was easily fixed. Has had no other work under warranty. My first time having a car with DSG and it is absolutely brilliant - will be hard to ever go back to a manual again. My son is 6'7'' and this is the only car that could fit him (that I can afford). I replaced the DRLs with the controversial LED lights referred to in other strings of the forum. I never had any canbus issues and never had any issues with them damaging the fitting - maybe because it tends to be dark/raining for longer in Ireland - so we don't use them as much! I have the 18'' wheels - I don't find the ride too bad but they are a b**ch to avoid kerbing -all of the wheels have some level of damage - I don't think the L&K ones are going to be any better! I find the space in the Combi brilliant - I have managed to take a garage full of junk to the dump using just this car and while the car may not be the widest in the world it had more than ample length to make up for it. In fact I find the narrowness of the car make driving it much easier - you never really feel like you are in a big car because you don't take up so much width on the road.

Here a few pictures of new and old!

I think the tint is just an illusion - in reality it is not nearly as dark as that! In fact when you are close to the car it would be difficult to tell which windows are tinted. Must be my magic photography skills - I wish!

With regard to the Rosso colour - I have had 2 cars in this colour and cannot say a bad thing about it - just wanted a change - I haven't had a silver car since the Superb I that I owned and I just thought I would go back to that. I did take the slightly unusual (and not recommended) option of having ivory leather with the silver - we will see how that slightly risky decision works out.

Looks nice - in fact I actually like the L&K wheels, but with the bi-colour probably not that difficult to keep clean because you won't notice the dirt.

I have the same situation with my tints - although only standard sunset glass from some angles it looks very "pimp" but from close up and inside it's not that dark.

After 4 days and a massive 200km on the clock  I thought I would give my first impression. For some reason -either the silver colour or the facelift - the car just looks bigger from the outside even though it is the same size as my previous one. The engine is still very tight and I look forward to enjoying it a little more when I have a few thousand on the  clock. The hardest thing for me (and the family) to get used to is the start stop system. The silence in traffic or at stop lights is very strange. And then it does take a time to get going - I think it is a matter of me getting used to it. The engine sounds different to my previous car even though it is exactly same engine - it starts much quicker and is generally much quieter -  I don't know why and wonder if the soundproofing has been improved. The panoramic sunroof is great for letting light into the car. Inside you still feel like you are in the old car as not much has changed - the only difference is the L& K trim. So far no strange noises and everthing seems to be working - hopefully it continues this way.

Did you have a choice with the colour of the steering wheel and hand break. I am about to order a L&K but don't fancy a brow wheel and h/b.My elegance has ivory and black. I would love to see your car in the flesh as dealers Never have the colour combonations we are looking for. I am for a blue with ivory.

Also why did you take delivery of your car with just a couple of days left in the month?.Did the dealer do you a turn:)

Kk

No choice of colours on the steering wheel, handbrake or the front fascia - all brown. The foot rests are just little bumps that are detachable. The I Panasonic sunroof is really nice and I like the fact that you can open it. The ivory interior with silver is unusual but i just prefer that colour interior
