Car stalling

Featured Replies

Quick question to you tech heads / mechanics , yesterday and today my sons seat arosa 54 plate stalled whilst driving along ? Doing 20-30 mph just dies stops and then turns engine over and fine ? , fuel pump we thought or a loose connection? Any ideas , we've changed fuel filter last year and it's been excellent little car

Immobiliser/worn key?

What gear was he in? My Polo had a throttle body problem meaning if revs dropped too low it would close and cut out

What gear was he in?

Jeans and a T shirt....... :giggle:

Was it a slow stall, like fuel starvation, or a sudden stall like the spark's gone bye bye?

My son's 1043 Polo stalls from time to time while driving until it's warmed up.  I put a new pump on it (advisory at MOT), but it made no difference.

Absolutely not, that's bloody dangerous!

Don't think it's a fuel or spark issue in that case.  According to whether the steering lock operates manually or electronically I'd be thinking along the lines Aspman is.

Possibly the ignition barrel failing.

I expect he means he loses power steering - i.e. it goes very heavy. In which case its an electrical problem.

I've told him now to park it up and phone RAC to tow him home, its a cracking little car :) he's just started a 3 year hnc course in light and heavy mechanic course , so it could be a fixer for the college

That's what I think ! Hopefully it just goes heavy on him

Battery connections ok?

Fuel pump relay?  With the immobiliser it only reads the key at start up,  I've done this on Felicias before after removing the steering lock, hold the key close to the reading coil, start the car with a screw driver and chuck the key on the passenger seat and the car continues to run.

It's probably an intermittent electrical fault.

I presume "steering locks" means that the hydraulic PAS stops when the engine stops, and the lad promptly thinks that he's just suffered total arm failure.
