Battery Cable Rubbing on Radiator Pipe

Featured Replies

Hi

Been a long time reader of the Forum and was planning to do a proper introductory post, but this has just come up and wanted some quick advice on what to do.

I bought a 2002 Fabia SDI Estate last week. In general its been well looked after, Full Service history, Cambelt clutch and Alternator in last year.

However while giving it a good look over this weekend i have found the cable that runs out the battery box and down  into the engine bay had come loose from its clip and has been rubbing against the radiator pipe.

The pipe has this mark, but presume it wont get worse now the battery cable secured.

My Question is does anyone know where that cable goes to and is it an easy job to replace (Iam a relative newbie to spanners but am happy to follow instructions) or if its going to be complicated/expensive can I just wrap in insulation tape and fix securly to the battery box so it can no longer rub against the pipe. (as a temporary measure until I got some more money to get it replaced properly)

Hope that makes sense, and if there any friendly SDI owners in Manchester say Hi :-) My first Skoda but loving my £750 Bargain lots so far.

Cheers

Andy :)

Get some self-amalgamating tape and patch over the bare area.  Not worth replacing the cable unless there are broken strands or bad corrosion, which it doesn't seem to have from your pic.

Snap on my VRS. I popped some electrical tape around it and repositioned the cable better.  Don't think it's a great design TBH.  Can't think where the cable runs to actually, I've had the full battery box out but can't remember!  Sorry!

Thanks Both for your replies.

Glad that someone else has had it as well.  Will get some self-amalgamating tape tomorrow.

Have got Battery Box out at the moment to check the power steering fluid so will be able to do a neat repair job on the cable. Agree its not a good design (neither is the whole battery box/air filter box ontop of the Power streering Fuild Dipstick !! )

But am enjoying getting to know the new car.

While I got the bonnet up and its still sunny, any other things I should have a look at ? Checked oil/water/brake fluid. Tried to look at all hoses for cracks, anything else I can be doing ?

Car is 125,000 with last owner for 8 years. Its been a Family hack so its a bit untidy but mechanically seems fine so far.

Great Forum by the way, I been looking to get a Fabia or an Octavia for about 2 years so been reading up lots on here.

Just got to try and get my Air Con working and the dreaded Rear Wash Wipe !!

Cheers
