Fabia vRS has a new stablemate - enter the BMW 120d M-Sport!

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance as this doesn't strictly have much to do with the Fabia II really, but I'm excited about my new purchase and thought you guys (as discerning connoisseurs of motoring) might fancy a look!

I won't bang on about how good the car is here but suffice to say I'm chuffed to bits.

Enjoy!

Tom

That is gorgeous. Lovely in white. Possibly even as desirable as a Fiat 595 Competizione and probably an even sharper drive.

Enjoy, you lucky fella (and remove the Abarth from your profile  :( )

BMW Performance brake upgrade

Abarth removed from profile, cheers for the reminder! Had a tear in my eye deleting him off but had to be done lol!

Yeah good spot, brakes upgraded to those fitted to the M135i. Should offer some decent stopping power! Haven't really tested them out yet, will let them bed in over a few more miles before seeing what they can do.

Absolutely lovely! Wanted a 120i M-sport myself!

Love the subtle cosmetic changes BMW have made to these cars. They look so much better than the old shape.

Having those wheels painted black or anthersite would really finish it off for me.

Gorgeous car!

No quicker way to deliver the morning rolls and other breads :p

In fact I'd go as far as saying that the new 1-series (sportier versions) are, albeit in a different way, as good-looking as the E30 M3s of the late 80s/early 90s. My mate once had an absolutely gorgeous 1991 M3 Evolution in black and that, for me was the best-looking BMW of all time.

Amazing car!

You dont happend to have some photos of the interior?

Haven't taken any interior shots yet but I will get a couple today and add one here for you.

The interior is very nice indeed! The quality of the materials is awesome mate.

Looks good, but it means at least part of the time you are going to be one of those w***ers in a BMW. :giggle:

Haha yeah I'm already finding people are less likely to let you out of a junction and trying to merge lanes is abit of a nightmare lol!

Hey! Lol.

Superb mate. I agree with alot of the other comments on here too, one of the best looking small BMW's for a long time, have never really understood the critism offered up by most. Enjoy and well done on getting the M Sport plus pack, a very good value extra. The HK sound system is exceptional!

RE our M135i conversation my Dad bought one a couple of months ago as a daily driver, was frankly a steal for what he paid too, BM definitely offering up some excellent deals and finance packages at the moment.

RE the fuel economy, hes 67 and self admits he bimbles about in ECO PRO in it quite a bit of the time. Hes had a few v nice motors in the last few years (E46 M3, 335d, 135i and a Boxster S PDK) and he says its probably the best of the lot, certainly the quickest.

Cheers mate. The 1-series has some great discounts available at the moment. I got nearly 5k off mine. With all the options and gearbox added list was 29.5k but I picked it up for 24.5k. When you combine that with bmw low rate finance and very healthy residuals/high MGFV available then it makes the monthly PCP payments relatively cheap.

I looked at the Mk3 Octy vRS which when you add on some options worked out more expensive! Ok so there is 0% apr on those but the much lower mgfv bumps up the monthlies quite a bit. If you don't need the jumbo boot and rear leg room then the 1-series is by far the nicer car for similar cash imho.

If I'm able to persuade SWMBO to part with the Fabia next year I'd be sorely tempted to swap it for an M135i! Having a 120d and an M135i would be an awesome 2-car garage I reckon! Oh well ill keep on dreaming lol!

Just out of interest what sort of MPG is your Dad getting from his?

I agree entirely, I like Skodas but I think BMW generally are a completely different wrung up the ladder like Audi and Merc are over a VW etc. Been having the argument with others on here that you can get some very nice premium metal for the cost of the new vRS but no one seems to get it.....guess suggesting that on a Skoda forum never goes down well haha.

If it werent for the fact I needed a big family car Id have been driving a new 1er yesterday, sadly for me they are just not quiye commodious enough for me to sell it to the wife! Might be a 320d M Sport Touring or C220 AMG Sport plus estate next time, cant honestly see me paying 25k for an Octavia. That said if my old man sells his anytime soon (given it is a loaded Black 5 door auto) I'll be very tempted indeed.

RE M135i economy I think low to mid 30's, havent seen him since he got it a few weeks back and it'd only done about 1.5k at that point so think it will continue to improve. His is the 8 speed auto so should be a bit better than then manual but that said though like any high power petrol car the minute you tap into the reserves it hurts economy, diesel power is so much more forgiving in that sense. Still given how quick it is thats still pretty impressive economy.

Compared to his other car (89 Mercedes 420SL) that has a combined figure of 17mpg the BM is practically a Prius haha

Yeah I see what you mean about space requirements. We have our first baby on the way early next year but I think the 1er will just about be big enough for the three of us, the boot is of sufficient size to swallow a buggy ok by all accounts. If I had more than one kid tho I wouldn't gamble on a 1er being big enough - would also look towards a 3-touring or something.

The baby news was the main reason (excuse) to chop in the Abarth tbh.

That's good news on the m135i economy. Might have to bank those figures for some convoluted man-maths at some point if I get the itch to change haha!

That's a quality cabin. Not overstated with bling and not too 'wraparound'. Makes my top of the range '3' spec Fabia interior look distinctly second-tier if I'm honest!

stunning, thats all that needs to be said

Cheers everyone for the lovely comments, wasn't necessarily expecting such a positive response so thank-you!

Looks like a lovely car Tom, I had a 2008 320D 177bhp auto and that was a peach of a diesel, given the advance BMW have made in the new cars I'm sure you're going to enjoy this a lot.

What spec did you go for Tom other than auto and the M Sport Plus pack? You tried out the HK much yet, its epic!

Please stop posting all these pics its just making me want to trade my car more and more haha

Added Spec :

Sport Auto with flappy paddles

M-sport Plus pack - Xenons, M-sport braking system, HK audio, Sun protection

Driver comfort pack - servotronic steering, Rear parking sensors, Cruise control

Full black panel display

Could have gone mental on th options list but tried to show a little restraint to protect my wallet haha! Nav would have been nice but couldn't really justify the cost on that one.

The HK is awesome even straight out the box. Should improve a lot too as get a few hours on it for the speakers to bed in apparently. Fantastic top end clarity and stereo separation. Thundering levels of bass are pretty good fun too!

I'll get some more pics up soon if it helps make the change happen for you lol! Go on you know you deserve/need one hehe!
