any tips on how to remove the cable ends (the whole plastic and spring bit) as i need a new one and im thinking about these also.

To remove you compress the spring with the end collar then rotate to lock in the open position. Then remove metal retaining Clip and remove from cable. You will have more of an idea once you have the new cable end.
