what upgraded bulbs?

Featured Replies

The standard bulbs in the vrs are really poor at night so wanting to upgrade but unsure what ones to go for.

Osram nightbreaker plus

Philips diamond vision 5000k

Philips xtreme vision

Anybody help on whats the best bulb to go for the osrams are the cheapest on the market. Want it to give a nice bright white or blue light out.

I have Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs. They have a small blue filter element on part of the blub, but fortunately not the whole thing so it isn't dimming the output, which is the only way you'll get blue out of halogens.

What do you want? Light down the road or a blue-white light?

Osrams for light down the road, or the Philips 5Kk for blue-whiteness.

Has to be the Osrams if you want to improve the light output. I bought "winter bulbs" by mistake, which had a blue hint to them and hated them as I personally felt they reduced the effectiveness for me. (Although I will have to point out that I have "light smoke" LIMIN-X on my headlights, which could arguably be the cause)

I use nightbreaker plus and they put a brilliant amount of light on the road, who cares about 'blue' lights these days.... All about performance for me.

Looks like its osrams for me then and there alot cheaper :-D

Not road legal? I was informed they were when I got mine and they've not caused me any issues at all, it failed it's MOT first time round for them being too high, but that was due to having new headlights fitted, not the bulbs

+1 for the cosmos blue though, they do a whiter bulb as well I believe, which is the CB is anything to go by, will still be an excellent product. HIDs direct have fantastic customer service too, when one of mine blew within warranty, they asked me to destroy the bulb, send a photo and then a new one was in the post the same day.

ive just fitted osram nightbreaker plus gold edition.

tonight is the first time ill be able to test them in the dark so will report back.

The site does say for offroad and show use only and being a Japanese import, will they be e marked? MOT won't look for that stuff, but the police/insurance might if they want to do you for something. I'm not saying they won't work fine, but they don't look, to the letter of the law, as road legal. I wouldn't buy them for myself. The OP might care, or might not, but I think it is worth pointing that out to them.

Osram here too. Such an improvement over stock

They are legal mate, the ones for off road use are the 100w ones, the 55w ones are ok, i've had them in the Fabia for about 6 months and had them in my previous car for a year and a half, no issues at all, they just need to be aligned correctly and pointed a little more down at the road then the standard bulbs.

What's the difference in the 'gold' edition to standard nightbreaker plus?

Do the Osram's have a white tinge to them or are they the same colour as standard halogens? Getting bored of my HID's now

Yes, they're white, but not at all blue.

And ok, Harry1212 :)

I've grabbed some halfrauds super brilliance h7s today... will let you know if they're any good.

The gold edition have the tips dipped in 24ct gold or something ridiculous.

So does that make any different to the performance?

Apparently, Phillips extreme vision bulbs (lamps as I would call them). They get good write ups.

Not sure about improved performance but the gold will not oxidise/corrode at all so giving a good connection throughout their life but cannot see any advantage, unless anyone else knows different?

From personal experience.

Nightbreakers are good and bright, but life is the shortest.

Philips Xtreme are as good as the Nb, but live far longer.

I am not commenting on the color of the light, as this is pretty unimportant to me. Far more important is the light they give me to drive in the dark.

Mtec white ones, do look good from the outside, but are potentially dangerous in the rain. The raindrops seem to soak up the light and you are driving in the dark.

Halfords

I agree with magic62 on the osram being short lived. I just notice one of mine has blown already and it's only a year old. So going to go for Philips next.

Which of the Philips bulbs have people used and recommend or have any reviews on? I've seen Xtreme vision

Diamond vision

Blue vision

Crystal vision

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok so my other night breaker plus packed up last night so won't be getting these again. They are considerably brighter than standard bulbs but the lifespan is a let down being under a year old.

Went for the Philips Xtreme vision off eBay for £20.89 delivered.
