using auto trader/selling tips

Hey folks.

Well after a month of still not selling the vRS (which i'm kind of glad about since i'm doing a lot of miles right now) I'm wondering if i'm doing anything wrong.

I've still not used auto trader but I will be putting it up on their next month. I've been reluctant to use it since its so expensive but i guess i better bite the bullet. has anyone had any better luck compared to the likes of ebay and pistonheads?

is there such a thing as making a car too cheap? I've made mine cheap to sell quickly so i can get the XR on the road. I've never actually sold a car before so its all new to me.

cheers.

I am a little surprised you have not been able to sell your Fabia.

For £5 you can join Preloved and advertise for free. If you choose this site, just remember to regularly update your ad so that it remains prominent.

You can also advertise on Gumtree for free.

I have sold on Autotrader in the past, but nowadays you get loads of scammers and time wasters. They are a pain in the arsenal!

Good luck

Beware of calls from middlemen looking to sell your car for a fee, having called you using info from autotrader,  Opening line being - " i have a buyer for your car'

Never knew that thanks.

i've had loads of offers from tradesmen who think I'm stupid and will sell it to them for a "decent" offer so i've now added no tradesmen or cold callers.

I'm surprised too i really did think it would fly out of the door for this price. I know its yellow and does have high mileage but still people who know a thing or two about cars should know what they are like.

I sold my last car on Autotrader.

It was on forums, pistonheads, free ads etc for a few weeks until I paid to go on Autotrader.

It went within a few days of appearing on the site.

might just do the cheapest option then for two weeks, sounds like a lot of people are selling their cars with in a matter of a week. Cant see how paying £45 will make it sell quicker for an extra week and mobile service.

Just beware of text messages from people purporting to be interested in your car. They usually begin by asking "Is the car still for sale?"

Well, after calling up a few times on various cars I've been interested in, only to be told its been sold, the first thing I ask is 'is it still for sale?'

Yes, but the point is you get text messages purporting to ask the question, and not a honest punter who phones and speaks to you.

Just use Autotrader's telesafe service. They issue a temporary telephone number that links straight to your phone, but it filters out cold callers and scammers. And when your car sells you can immediately go onto your autotrader account and disable the phone number so you get no more calls.

I thought it worked really well last time I advertised on Autotrader.
