Intermitent wiper delay on Felicia

Featured Replies

I've heard thaf you can set the wiping delay between 2 and 35 seconds.

I didn't know that :wall: my wipers have a 4 seconds delay after 3 continous wipes.

- how can you set a new delay?

- is this function available on all Felicias? if not, how can I retrofit one?

- is the set delay lost after disconnecting the battery?

If it's like mine you turn the wipers on (fully, not intermittent) then turn them fully off. When you're ready for the next sweep set them back on to the intermittent setting and they'll adopt that interval as their period between sweeps.

I didn't know either :) and I looked in Felicia Owner's Manual (I only have the Czech version). At page 54, they say something like this:

Single wipe

Push lever gently towards position 1

Intermittent wipe

Lever - position 1 - wipers act every 4 seconds.

Infinitely variable wiper cycler*

You can set the interval in 2 - 35 seconds range.

- switch on the intermittent wipe and wipe the glass once

- switch off the intermittent wipe then on again after a desired interval.

The selected delay can be changed as often as desired.

To be honest with you, I couldn't replicate the setting of delay method, probably * means it applies only to GLX. Perhaps other member can explain how delay setting works, then advise how to upgrade your wipers system.

That's exactly how I had to set the intermittent wipers in my 1998 SEAT Toledo SE. It never worked properly!

After years of driving Fellys I only discovered that fairly recently!! ;)

I have had 2 Felicias and both had this. It's one of the things I miss when driving the Fabia which only has the fiddly little switch on top of the main wiper switch offering something like 4 preset times.

Never had any problems with it not working properly.

thank you all for replies.

adurer, my car is LX like yours and I can't set another delay.

I hope somebody knows what I have to add or replace to have that variable delay.

my guess is another intermitent wiper 'relay' which in fact is more than a simple relay.

can anyone confirm my hypothesis?

I've dug deeper into this matter and based on wiring I am able to confirm your guess partially (see the two wiring illustrations)

- yes, you have to buy the GLX 'relay' for intermittent wipe (code 6U0955532G) that has 6 pins instead of 4 on LX (code 6U0955532H)

BUT you have also to

- route differently one wire and add another wire (blue, respectively red on wiring) as follows: move blue wire from relay panel connector BC/1 to BC/4 (it is a 14-pin BLUE plug) and add a red wire between relay panel connector BC/1 and BB/7 (it is a 12-pin GREEN plug)

By doing that, not only you'll have a variable delay for wiper, but also an automatic wash-wipe, meaning the wipers will run 1-3 times immediately after using the washer and depending on wash duration. Cool!

You can fit a vauxhall omega wiper stalk and relay so you have a turn wheel to adjust will add how to soon felicias can hqve a rear intermittent rear wiper with a added relay and this works by using rear wash to turn on and off

I've been v confused by the intermittent wipe recently, this explains a couple of things :D

I'll try setting this next time i'm out in the rain

^ You'll probably find it a bit trial & error to start with. Even now I still don't get it quite right at times!

adurer, you rule!

you are one of the most knowledgeable guys on electrical and electronics.

I thank you for the patience.

now I can start adding more comfort options to my car

PS

if I need a photo, a schematic or a part information, can you help me?

Thanks, but I'm sure there are older members at least as good, if not better, I might have more free time.

Of course. But not only you can ask for something from my collection of resources for Felicia. I'm open to anyone needing help to repair his car.

i had a felly fior a short time, then back to Furby - problem is that 4 position switch ,and in our county, the rain can be too much for pos 4, but not enough for full blown . BTW- Red- I'm north Warks , a bit up from bedrock in a silver 1.4 TDi ,with last letters as per my usrename. If you see me (and I do sometimes frequent south Warks , give us a flash or two ).

Once you get used to it it is a brilliant system and gives you complete flexibility.

As far as I'm aware all Felicia's have it, even my 1995 LXi has it.

And I thought mine had a mind of their own......

I remember when my mum bought her Felicia new in 1999 the salesman came out and explained at great length how they worked - so I wouldn't think you're the only one to be confused by them.

Since there are many Felicia operation features overlooked by us, I believe this would be a good occasion for somebody to scan Felicia User Guide in English and upload it. Nobody did it in 18 years. I offer myself to give all necessary advice for a good quality scan.

agreed, ought to be standard on every motor!

I've  got a copy of the Felica manual somewhere ,but I'd suggest on last page it says same as in my Fabia one , which possibly explains the resons for no scanned copies being available ,as it might possibly give Colin & sit admin a few problems /headaches .Many the time I've seen questions raised where a scan of haynes would give all the answer, but again -copyright problems .

Its not Colin who is reproducing it though is it? It is the individual. I wouldn't worry... good luck to Skoda prosecuting me for it!

Hello!

Old topic but maybe somebody can still help me.

The problem is the same, I have a '99 Felicia LXi and I'm interested in this adjustable wiper possibility.

All of my wipers/washers are working well. Of course the intermittent function does not work.

If I open my fuse box what I can see that there's a missing relay at the "INT" position.

On the fuse diagram it is written that:

INT - Rear window wiper and washer relay

The part catalog says that here should be:

control unit for wiper/washing system - rear window, slot:, 10.94-03.97      6U0955532A

(or) control unit for wiper/washing system - rear window, 04.97 -                 6U0955529

Questions

So why is it empty? What does that relay do? How is it possble that it isn't there but all of my system works perfectly? I'm a little bit confused...

Thanks,

András

Relay INT is needed for intermittent work of rear wiper. For intermittent operation of front wipers you need relay mounted in the middle of the upper row (6U0955532G).

One more thing. Installing the relay is not enough if the car was not wired for optional accessories (GLX version).

Thanks Guys!

So my only option is to rewire the fuse box corresponding to the GLX version and than replace the relays.
