one wheel sticks out further than the other *whats bent?*

Featured Replies

put some correct fitting wheels on and see if the camber is still out?

Mate thinks its probs a bent shocker? Or possibly a

Does he think or know? If the car is on a ramp it should be patently obvious whether the shock or hub is bent or not (and probably would have been on the previous wheels). Have you checked the alignment. I wouldn't spend ANY money until you've accurately diagnosed the problem.

Why do people have to constantly nitpick????? Its a poor display like!!!!!

Stretch like that doesnt even approach dangerous!!!! not even the slightest.

Stop hunting for reasons to complain, go outside and get some real problems in your life like the rest of us do, and get the subsequent perspective on life.

anyway back to helping, i had a similar thing, it was a bent shock, to dignose, slacken the top mount, and rotate the shaft from the top as it will be fixed in position leaving the spring to rotate on the bearing.

By rotating 90 degrees it should then look flush, and 180 degrees should make it look like positive camber. If it makes no difference look on to the hub, or even a wrong make of ball joint fitted.

Also where the ball joints are concerned there is a certain amount of camber adjustment to be had as the wishbone will have slots where the 3 bolts go through, slacken these and push (hard) the bottom of the wheel/hub should go in quite a bit, if its still uneven, slacken the other side and pull the hub away from the car, this should level things up a bit

Interesting post.  I assume that you think that trying to insult me (without even knowing anything about me) somehow strengthens your view.  Judging by what some owners (nor necessarily K17KEO) do to their cars pointing out that possibly considering other than just the look of the car might be useful to K17KEO.  Note my posts did not in anyway attempt to insult K17KEO even through I consider 'stretched' tyres to be an abomination.

Incidentally, I don't really need more problems in my life.  Trying to find a suitable care home for my 91 year old mother; assisting my 91 year old father in law to obtain a chairlift and assisting a friend who has just returned from living abroad and is dying from cancer is enough for now.

Chill dude, read further back, it wasnt directed at you.

Your responses were appropriately respectfull

incidentally, hope you sort out the problems you are having.

Right Ive booked the car in a localish place for 4 wheel laser allignment check, they have a john bean machine so hope its going to help diagnose the problem. Had a look underneath today and noticed one wishbone looks original and one is an non oem one. As Lofty said earlier could be slightly different? Will find out on Thurs hopfully

I'd say from looking at the photos that you have a component issue there, something mechanical - rather than a simple case of the alignment being out. I'd probably say the hub itself, rather than starting to look further away from where the wheel is fixed - at suspension components etc. At least to start with anyway.

If the posted photos are taken from the same perspective (height/distance/angle away from the object) then something on the nearside front is causing the wheel to sit further out at the bottom - it looks to me like quite a few degrees of 'toe out' camber to me!

Still a good idea to get it on a proper alignment machine though, as you'll get some readings and you can take it from there. In looking at the alignment settings, they might well come across the issue anyway.

Also, on the wishbone issue - I would measure both. As you say, you've an original one there to use as a benchmark. Is it the nearside one that's non-OEM? If so, and if the wrong one has been used, this could potentially push the assembly further out than it's designed to be.

Best of luck.

Yes, got to be something bent or incorrect part fitted as the camber is not adjustable as far as i know. Its the N/S wishbone thats non OEM so could be at fault. Will get the allignment checked and go from there. Hopefully wont be too bad on the pocket.

Wishbone is interesting for sure - any info on it that you can see, part numbers etc that could be checked to see if it's compatible?

couldnt see any mate, Im on the floor on axle stands so not easy to see :-( would bo good if its the wishbone though!

may have just been a cheap one, there are many irregularities with these ebay ones, had that on a mk4 golf wishbone, was 10mm longer

Agreed, would be good if that's your issue!

Would always be something I'd never fit anything but OEM, for this reason really.

Problem finally sorted, changed wishbones and all joints at the front end, another set of coilovers, still the same :-( changed hub and bearing, bingo. Expensive but upgraded to KW V1's while i was at it. Thanks for the input lads. Bentley wheels now back on. One happy chappy :-)

So it was the hub (or more precisely the hub carrier?).

That's a serious impact to bend one of those. I've done it and had the same problem. The rest of the components you changed may also gave been slightly bent but magnified when you sum them together.

Wow. Some impact indeed!

Glad you're sorted though

Presume you've had a full 4-wheel alignment done and the results are all OK?
