New VRs seats?

I have a mk 2 VRs estate and now have the option of replacing it with a mk3 version.

Only problem is that i drive 1000 miles a week and after a long day i was finding that the seats are uncomfortable in the old one. The side bolsters are hard and it feels like the seat is too narrow. This is putting me off ordering one. Can anyone shed some light on whether the new seats are more comfortable please? I have also found the ride to be a bit too firm for the potholes and crap roads we have locally. Is the new one significantly better in that respect?

Yes to both

The new ones are a lot softer and seem slightly wider or have less bolster but they still hug you in the corners

Also the ride in the new one seems slightly less bumpy bit is still firm in the corners. It's a vrs so its never going to be a soft ride

Have you got a local dealer so you can try one out?

That was my concern also,especially with morecambes potholed roads,the mk2seats look a lot better,not as cheap looking,as the new one,but out on the road this sold me the car,felt mine was even worse after the test drive,so roll on,jan or feb

Why not just buy an Elegance 2.0 TDI instead of a VRS -more gear as standard, more comfortable and not that much slower (assuming that you are looking at diesels)

Yup Greenstripe - the Elegance is the other thing i am considering due to the comfort factor. Just liked a bit of hooligan tomfoolery occasionally

Re sworralls comment, i had a 30 minute sit in one at the local dealers a few weeks ago and thought the seats were a lot better. Big decision though, i am stuck in it for next 3 years so gotta make the right choice.

i think this is questionable. Sure you dont get standard cruise, folding mirrors and the like but the vRS comes with the bodykit to set it apart from the regular car (which whilst not at all unattractive is about as exciting as cold rice pudding, my opinion of course), nice 18's, and overall a nicer looking interior care of the 3 spoke steering wheel (not a fan of four spoke wheels) and seats (look nicer but whether they are more comfortable i dont know....arguably more supportive though).

Also getting back onto spec in general, the vRS does come with lane assistant (maybe not the most useful thing in the world but ensures the car at least has light assistant too) and bi-xenons, together would add nearly £1500 to the price of an Elegance.

Also whilst the figures dont necessarily suggest so the 184ps diesel will be quite a bit quicker than the 150, perhaps a touch heavier but 34ps and 44lb/ft will translate to quite a bit more go. The vRS TDi will do 62 in mid/late 7's i have no doubt, given MK2 170's have also been timed around the 7 sec mark using DSG launch control.

I think it depends what you want. Id personally never want an Elegance spec one as it doesnt do anything for me at all but there are others that wouldnt care much for the vRS. If I were in the market for a car like the vRS I wouldnt consider an elegance just for comfortable seats, Id buy another warm hatch from another manufacturer probably.
