nearly purchased gloss black plasti dip!

Featured Replies

£8 in wilko. should i try it on my chrome grill? I could spray on the car then like in the utube vids.

Got a link? Never heard of gloss black Plastidip?

Are you sure it's Plasti-Dip and not Plastikote?

Two different things

You do get gloss black but its not plastdip themselves that make it but a uk company sounds more like its plastikote.

What's the difference? Thinking about getting the centre console stereo surround done in some fashion so that it's close to the PIano Black of other parts of the trim... are either of these likely to do the job?

Plasti-Dip sprays easily found via Google. Not quite sure what the product is but one guy used it to give his wheels a matt finish.

Have had things Plastikoted in the past- that involved shot blasting , powder coating and heating in an oven IIRC..

You can buy black plastidip as a matt finish only AFAIK and you buy a "glosifier" which is then applied on top of the matt which gives it a gloss finish.

Not too sure about £8 that sounds Like just the matt black spray,it is a fair bit more for the glosifier!

"Plastidip" is a rubberised paint system and that is its brand/trade name.

M0bov;

Do not get muddled up with plastikote as that is the brand name for normal spray paint products and does not peel off like plastidip.

^^^ this........could be an expensive fail if you go overspraying with plastikote

Plastidip is generally over a tenner an aerosol tin - as here from their own shop - and i doubt very very much its available from Wilkinsons.

There is a UK manufactured alternative for about £8 + delivery a can from http://www.cardipuk.com as found in their shop here

as above be very careful - one is normal a spray paint, one is a rubberised removable product

Arrr, good info fellers. Yes I looked into the MATT/GLOSS thing and was surprised I found a gloss black in Wilko, your right prolly not Plasti dip. Worth giving it a miss then!

Got painted my grill  by gloss Plastidip, was last for few days. maybe just because my grill bitten by the stone chips a bit and paint does not stick as it should.

My verdict:  WASTE THE TIME AND MONEY!

Plastidips worth the money if done right ive done my grill, bonnet, roof, boot lid ,spoiler and the last set of alloys i had it needs a good 8-10 coats to last especially grill and bonnet they take alot of stone chip abuse. I was in wilko this mornin and none of there shops sell plastidip or a uk equivelent.

Gloss finish is possible with plastidip but not straight from one tin.

You need black and then the glossifer.
