There are differences between the rear silencers as the petrol has only one exhaust pipe on each silencer and the diesel has two on its rear silencer.

I'll need to look under a petrol version when I get the chance to as I'll be all over mine like a rash when it gets here.

It's still a shame to have round pipes in that trapezoid-ish hole!

Fingers crossed one doesn't go black on the diesel.

I, wouldn't go fiddling about as you don't know if it's going to create a big power loss!

Just take the finishers off, then you don't have to feel so embarrassed.

1 for me too... :-D

If you have spare money can you send it to me. I'll supply you a device that pumps steam out the spare pipe for £3000 OEM part from Tassimo

It won't because the diesel has a DPF.

Makes nice coffee though  :giggle:

With my previous motor I had two exhaust outlets and two exit 'garnishes' I removed one of the exhausts leading To the garnish to improve sound and reduce weight by some 11kg..each to their own...

There are a lot of people that like cars out on the road, they most certainly will notice. 'Mummy' with the kids may not pay attention but when you are stuck behind a petrol Vrs I bet you will !

Twin exhausts only one smoking in the winter will bug you, I guarantee it. Also it is a massive give away between variants now, previously you never really knew but now if I was in a petrol and old oil burner is smoking outa one exhaust in front then move over !

Yes, there are a lot of people who like cars out on the road. 100% agree with you on that. I'm one of them. When i'm sat in traffic on a cold wintery day the last thing i'm thinking about is an exhaust cloud... but that's just me.

Not sure how you can garuntee it will bug people, it certainly wouldn't bug me. I've ordered the petrol anyway though, so these are just my thoughts on this particular matter. The diesel vRS is still a very quick and accomplished car so I'm sure the owners will be thinking more about how great their new car is than 'I wonder how my smokey backside is looking'.

My friend has a mapped BMW 335d which puts out 310hp and 400lb-ft of torque. I've been lucky enough to drive it. I think if that particular oil burner came anywhere near us vRS drivers, we'd be the ones to move over!

The 1.8TSi also has twin exhaust outlets but hidden behind rear diffuser, not sure if this is same as 2.0TSi parts but may give the modders a bigger parts bin to play with! Alternatively, buy a Mondeo 2.2TDCi Tit X Sport as that comes with proper twin pipes!

The thing that would really bother me is not so much it has only a single sided exit but the fact it looks like this:

I could live with it if it was a nice shiny tailpipe but the taxi-spec backbox inserted into a trim-finisher is just woeful. It is very noticeable imho.

I wouldn't try to modify the existing exhaust tho. Much better to wait for a quality aftermarket system if you ask me.

Yes, totally agree. The execution is very poor there. They could have made that a lot better. Just needs tidying up.

Twin exhausts should be limited to V configeration engines. Fitting them to straight 4s is crass IMO

I say go for it. I've seen several cars, (Audi's spring to mind) with a single silencer, with double ...outlets...? anyway, some of these, you can see the shiney steel in one hole, and black in the other. Not sure if they are both connected (probably), but I do think it looks a bit dodgy. Likewise, when you see a nice big finisher on the back of the car, often a stylish shape, with a little pea-shooter inside from the real exhaust, just makes me feel a bit disappointed in that car.

Also, your bound to have some mates interested in your new VRS and will be having a good look around and laugh at your pretend exhaust hole

At least they got it right on the Superb...

I just don't like the fact that they didn't put one there.

It won't make any vital difference apart from being unique and symmetrical.

I'm happy to spend the money achieving that with genuine parts.

It amazes me that car manufacturers spend millions of pounds on ensuring that their vehicles are ergonomically perfect and yet they happily release them to manufacture with one exhause pipe, one fog light, one reversing light.

Your vehicles are either perfectly symmetrical or they're not?

I know what you mean, won't be long till they're putting a steering wheel just on one side or god forbid one fuel flap.....

 Let's start a poll;

1) Who doesn't mind in the slightest that the car in front only smokes from one side ??

2) Who gets terribly irate that the car in front only smokes from one side or the fact you are driving said car and you can't decide looking in your rear view mirror if the smoke coming from one side makes you wish you hadn't bought the car in the first place ??

I'm with answer 1)  :giggle:

If you use V-Power diesel, your car won't smoke from either pipe

Used nothing else in my current motor, the guy at my local MOT station said he'd be doing MOTs since 1971 and he'd never seen a vehicle emissions so low.

Mind you, it's bl00dy expensive :@

That's one way of looking at it, personally I think a little different...
