Fabia fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Hello all, quick question...

I've got a Fabia 1.4 8v and when I put fuel in - full tank - I'm only getting 200-250 miles of a full tank.. Can anyone clarify if thats normal or too low? I'm saying I should be getting more out of a full tank?

Thanks Sean.

Seems rather low tbh. depends how u drive and what sort of journeys you do.

When was your last service

That's normal for round town, my computer shows around early 30's round town. On the A2 I get 42mpg tops at 50mph. Just a juicy old engine. The 16v is far better.

Don't forget that the 1.4mpi only has a smallish capacity tank - abt 45 litres according to handbook which equates to abt 9.9 galls so 225 miles is 22.72 mpg. However, have you calculated what you are getting just from fuel guage readings or from actual full tank to full tank which is more accurate. As a previous reply stated, it is difficult to give an opinion without knowing further details but there several previous threads on this topic in this forum which you might find helpful.

I dont drive to bad tbh I was a little **** racing around but calmed down now I don't do long journeys normally short and sweet loads of them tho. Just wish I was able to get more out of it, just had fuel filter and crank sensor changed, last service was about 4 or so months ago

My home to Glasgow - -- 320 mile,then I

"short and sweet" journeys will normally use significantly more fuel than long open road journeys but obviously factors such as rush hour congestion, road works etc will have an adverse effect.

Presumably, having had a recent service, items such as air filter and plugs should be in good condition and the thermostat is operating correctly. Tyre pressures are another cause of fuel inefficiency as are binding brakes and a heavy right foot.

I have a 1.4 mpi comfort before.

I used to get the fuel light come on around 270 - 300 mark. Lowest was maybe 240 which was a stop start commute.

My brother in law now has the car, drives slowly to save on fuel and has got to 330 before the fuel light came on. I would get seriously bored driving like he does.

I don't think the values are that bad for the type of journeys you do.

As mentioned above tyre pressures are important, it will help with fuel consumption, tread wear and handling.

Air con is huge drain on petrols to, often found the car struggle with it on. Turned the air con off and felt like a boost.

With the fuel light on, I'd usually get 38 litres in. So assuming it tells you that you have 7 litres left.
