What fuel octavia vrs mk1

Featured Replies

Tesco momentum 99 any good?

stick with V-power mate, Tesco add Ethanol to their 99 stuff to get the octane rating up which can be bad for our fuel delivery system as it can cause leaks as ethanol can eat seals which are not designed for that kind of environment...or so im told by a boffin

My Octavia was always run on Optimax which became V Power.  If I couldn't get that I used BP Ultimate.  If I really had to it was Total, but that only happened three times I just over six years.

I've been experimenting with fuel in my Rallye and have gone back to V Power as it really doesn't like the supermarket carp and is just plain happy on the good stuff.  I was also told by someone in the industry to stick with the big brands as you get what you pays for.

Fifth Gear did a feature on high octane petrol a while back. Certainly seemed to undermine the credibilty of all the brands claiming performance gains.

The new jungle juice is V-power Nitro, my S3 loves the stuff and you get a better mpg as well.

The idea behind the higher the octane level or RON (research octane number) is that you can compress it more along with more owygen before it spontaneously combusts thus adding more power per cycle of the engine.

I know its way more to it than that but that's enough to convene me to use the stuff.

Like i said all along, stick with V-power:)

Even Audi recommend 98 or higher in my S3, says it on the filler flap.

Although i agree not really worth the extra money if you don't have a turbo or High compression N/A engine.

It's not all about performance and engine gains (bhp, etc)

I've done a test myself:

- Full tank of Asda Standard 95 RON

- Full tank of Shell V-Power 99 RON

Using the Asda fuel, my Octy spluttered, made a lot of noise (the bad kind) and felt sluggish - it lost some of its "pull" and felt like it was ill. On V-Power the car just keeps going and going... and oddly it's not drinking as much oil either.

No, you're not going to gain an extra 50bhp out of high-end fuel, but you will get a smoother running, happier engine.

Giving your car supermarket fuel is like a human getting flu. People say "diesel is the Devil's fuel" - wrong, 95 RON is the Devil's fuel and it should go to hell!

Mine gets Asda p*sswater. I do a shed load of miles and drive the t*ts out of the car. I've tried everything on the market, and have never been able to make any discernible difference between any of them. I guess it comes down to personal choice and what your car feels happiest on.

Interesting this

i have used "V" power and my car don't feel any better on it. In fact when car get's near 1/4 tank it hesitates bad with it.

Asda I agree just makes car feel slower

BP Ultimate I stay completely away from as worse than Asda in mine

Tesco momentum works ok in mine as does Sainsbury equivalent 98 ron which feels slightly better than Tesco.

I use v power all the time in my Skoda!

I did a test in my 15year old escort to see if I could get more from v power!

Basically the escort felt better and more eager on v power and also did an extra 60 miles on a 11 gallon tank!

That's 60 miles for an extra £2.50 a tank.....no brainer!

Mileage and journeys were all the same!

As my vRS is completely standard,I use normal unleaded.

I always use Tesco 99 stuff. Can't tell the difference between that and V-power. Been using it for years with various cars and never had a problem

I'll stick with v power the others are cheaper for a reason I think

Nikki at r-tech gets about ! I was using normal ron 95 from shell before I got my remapped to stage 2 but before I did get her mapped i was told to fill it up with v-power before coming down . Now I started using v-power 4-5 weeks before my remap and notice straight away the difference in acceleration , MPG (which i got more then using 95) and overall just felt better . I think its worth the extra £5 to fill up .

I use v-power. The difference is night and day in my car.

V power it is

I use v-power in my vRS worth the extra, used it in my old VR6 and was far better than supermarket crap.

V-Power for me, my 115k vRS is a lot smoother, more responsive and does more mpg (about 3mpg more) which helps towards the price difference.  We use V-Power in the other half's Honda Jazz i-Vtec, again a lot smoother, more responsive and better on fuel.  Yet in my old Honda CR-V (non Vtec) it made no difference, so it does depend on whether your car can make the best of it.

Think I'm gonna try vpower now.... In all honesty been runnin mine on whatever is closest when need to fill up as she's a 1000 mile a week car.... (Work n back mon to fri and essex to derby to essex on Friday and essex to derby to essex Sunday ferrying my eldest daughter about) as it looks aa tho 8 out of 10 octy owners said their cars preferred it :)

Ive tried them all in mine. Runs a little **** on V-Power tho if im honest, Goes like stink and gives more MPG on Tesco Momentum, Runs well on BP Ultimate too. As far as normal unleaded goes it runs great on normal BP and all Sainburys variants, aswell as Jet, Runs poor on all the other supermarket stuff tho.

So I'm annoyed.

The shell garage near me is no longer a shell garage. It's a Texaco.

It's ok I told myself, there's a BP down the road, they're a reputable brand and probably do a good high performance fuel... well not according to this video they don't! Bugger.

I'd choose Texaco over BP for normal petrol/diesel

Mainly 'cos Texaco have free air vs BP who charge

imo Texaco's have a more interesting selection of snackage too
