Mk3 L&K likely?

Featured Replies

Isn't the range big enough already? What would they drop to fit it in?

They don't build them at SUK. Skoda in Mlada Boleslav does. Plus they don't do it as favour, we pay for it.

Shocking! SUK don't build them (obviously) but they have a hand in what specs we get and it's very true they don't do it as a favour that's why they can do what they want.

I'm not sure what your position proves. Manufacturer offered everyone in Europe the same choice of trims, engines, drivetrains and options. UK importer who stands between us and manufacturer decided not to allow entire combination of engines and drivetrains to go on sale in UK. Not only that, but it's the best engine. The only engine in non vRS range that gets proper multilink suspension at the back and XDS by default. The only petrol engine in the entire range that can be paired with 4x4 and DSG in the same time. The only TSI engine in non vRS lineup that is still chain, not belt driven. The ultimate combination of power, economy, handling and stability for regular Smith who does not want harder sports suspension of vRS or to be challenged to race between the lights by every whale spoilered Corsa in town every time he drives to work. Importer decides, UK folk won't have it. Why? "Because we said so". It makes no sense! "Shrug".

I know it's cool to be "anti-anti" for some forum entertainment, but you shouldn't be ok with this Neily03. It's not cool for SUK to do that. It's not OK for SUK to do that. It's douchebaggery of epic proportions. Sponsored with our money. I understand you don't care, because it's not be the model you want, so you're ok with it. I do, because 1.8 turbo is my weapon of choice. I had 1.8T O1, we had 1.8TFSI O2, I had 1.8TSI O2FL and I want the new 1.8TSI 4x4 DSG. SUK decision directly affects me. Because "they said so". But if we all entertain this behaviour from SUK, next time - it might be the model you want that's missing from the UK and UK only price list. Plus, let's think about it - if you look at it the way we do and "condemn" SUK for playing nanny with your shopping choices, the worst that can happen is that you will have too much choice. I'll take that over being sent to Seat for my 1.8TSI fix any day.

It's the whole "I want every option available and I want it for £12" attitude that seems to be cropping up more and more that gets me.

Skoda are no different to any other manufacturer, they do different specs for different markets based on what they forecast will sell based on years of experience, yes they may not always get it right but who ever does?

Well, that's the nature of "budget brand". I'm not sure if you will find a lot of people to man the barricades for "I'd buy another Octavia but I don't think the price tag is high enough".

They are different.

Firstly because they don't pre-order any stock, therefore have to reason to tweak manufacturers specifications or lineup. No Octavia car will linger on parking lot for months, no Octavia car will need discounting because it didn't sell before new reg arrived. Queue length for 1.8TSI Elegance with ACC is roughly the same as for 2.0 TSI vRS with AAC.

Secondly, because Skoda is traditionally the lowest in pecking order in VAG group and always gets the oldest tech. Currently every single sister company is tearing holes on their pocket because of insane pricing. Go to DTD and pick Seat Leon Sports Tourer FR 1.8TSI DSG with Technology Pack. Then spec it up with every single trim option except external visual tat (bigger alloys, custom paint). You'll end up with price below £24k. Try speccing Elegance 1.4 TSI 140PS DSG to that level at any broker and you'll end up hitting £30k mark. Not only that, but that £24k Leon ST FR, on the same platform, from the same parts bin, with marginally less boot space than Octavia Estate already features newer tech as it has Chassis Control from Golf GTI which Skoda never got even for vRS.

So of course we are going to complain. Of course we want every option available for less. At least as much and for as little as other VAG brands. And the last thing we need is further cuts in engine choices?
