  • Me thanks for taking my call yesterday. Further investigation and spending 50£ I am at a loss why this car does not want to start. Clearly it has a defect and is not fit for purpose. Spending 750£

If you have no joy with the trader, take them to small claims.

I agree on small claims court.  To unplug the cooolant sensor is deliberate and he was trying to conceal a fault.  I can't imagine a court not finding in your favour.

What you could also do is to send an email to "Honest John" who has his own website and writes for the Telegraph and ask one of his advisors what you should do.  I am sure I have read this type of issue before and the suggestion has always been small claims court for your money back.

Make sure that if you do take it to small claims that any action is against him personally, and not his company. that way he can't dodge paying up by 'winding up his old company' and starting afresh under a new name. Make sure you add on the cost of parts you've had to buy, and the time taken diagnosing problems too.

Why not ask on here if there is anyone close to you (you don't say what area you are) with VCDS to see what fault codes are showing, it maybe something simple that can be resolved fairly quickly and simple, before heading off down the Small Claims route.

Once you get it sorted, then name & shame the guy, he doesn't deserve to be selling cars.

:D I think I am going to follow this post - Sounds like it is going to get interesting.

With the CTS disconnected does the glow plug light stay on for several seconds? Or does it go straight off?

I think finding someone near you with VCDS would be the best idea.

With the CTS disconnected the glow plug light stays on for several seconds and goes off.

With the CTS plugged in the glow plug light stays on for a split second and goes off.

That sounds normal. Get the car scanned with VCDS.

I think 2 and 3 are probably the cause. Clear them and see what comes back.

i recon you should get in and about the fuse box mate, have a goooooood look at all the fuses see if any are out

failing that try the wires leading to the needle lift sensor (its in injector 3 the tall one)

also clean the intake manifold and check any wiring there

I have already cleared the faults, it just cranks over does not want to start.

Does any one have any wiring diagrams, any pictures of what I am looking at ?

I know of the relay box under the dash, the fuse box as you open the drivers door.

which fuse box do i need to look at ?

Thanks,

(i have typed my letter to him as well)

If the intake manifold flap is the anti shudder valve then it may be staying closed and stopping air getting into the engine.

thanks,

any ideas which fuses i need to look at ?

where are they ?

Yes the butterfly as you mentioned, only closes as you shut of engine so as to prevent shudder, if it has become closed and stayed it will prevent starting, but that doesnt explain it starting with cts unplugged.

as said lift sensor is in injector number 3, its the tallest of the injectors and has a wire coming from it. Follow that and check it thoroughly. there isnt a harness as such just a single wire

Im a fan of just checking all fuses, not just going for a specific number, check them all, and its drivers side, the only fuse box in that area.

Will do!

if i switch the car off, when its alittle warm, and plug the sensor in and clear the errors from the ecu, when i turn the ignition on the temprature gague goes up.After that i can crank it over a billion times but it wont start.

Well, is the water temperature sensor duff, it's obviously sending the wrong signals to the ECU.

Its a new sensor i purchased from andrew page.

The old one does the same.

This is a two pin sensor.

How would it talk to the culster and the ecu ?
