Dog issue - your thoughts

I think you have a very valid point mender.

No amount of logical reasoning with the idiot yesterday would have him think any different,

Despite our mutt being in the lead, off the floor in Kelly arm not making a sound apparently ours was partly to blame.

You just cannot understand the mentality of these morons. Inconsiderate. Arrogant. I could go on...

My parents doberman yes doberman was attacked by a staffy that was off the lead and bitten in the neck and the owner just stood there and didn't do anything,

My dads quick thinking and size 10 steell toe cap to the staffys neck made it release but it still cost a fortune in vets bills,

My dad also witnessed a old blokes little terrier been attacked by another staffy a couple of weeks ago and the owner did nothing but the attack was over by time he got to them but the bloke got the *******ing of his life off my dad, unfortunatly the old bloke had walked away but my dad felt really sorry for him hence why he had a word with the bloke with the staffy

Good on your dad for stepping in. Nothing makes me madder than to witness our older generation coming under abuse from yobs. I'd do just the same. Who the hell do these people think they are ?!!!!

I have a german shepherd bitch whos abit nutty shes 9 yr old now and has a rare cancer found in GSDs and other similiar dogs.

Anyway since a young age she has been playing with other dogs but has shes grown older she has an intolerance to smaller dogs because there small and yappy, its similiar behaviour to older humans and kids. She doesnt attack them but certainly lets them no there not welcome to play.

When she was younger she used to play with two greyhounds, both now have died. Once while my dad was walking her with my niece(8yr old at the time) she was playing with greyhounds and my niece was throwing the ball to all 3 dogs whilst my dad and the greyhounds owner chatted away, a staffie entered the field and got abit nasty with one of the greyhounds and in the process sent my niece flying, my gsd looked at this as a personal attack on one of its humans and went for the staffie. Only time my dog has gone for another dog.

Having had so many bad experiences of dogs throughout my life, my experience is that ANY dog can flip and then that dog owner will say

"no, not my dog-he wouldn't do THAT"

"oh, he's never done that before, what did you do?"

"there is NO WAY my dog would do that"

"he was only being friendly, you should know how to deal with dogs"

I've never known a dog owner to take responsibility for anything their dog does; biting, scratching, fouling, fleas, the endless dog hairs, property damage, jumping up and damaging clothes or car paintwork-it's as if owning one makes them accept this stuff as part of the deal of having a dog and so everyone else is expected to accept it too.

It's NEVER the dog's fault-something must have set them off, upset them, looked at them the wrong way....etc

Flamers can flame but it comes from a lifetime of real experience of living it.

Those with nice dogs probably will not understand the mindset.

I'll be honest that as a dog owner I find this insulting to make such an incredibly crude generalisation based on your own very limited experience, the only one doing the flaming here is you.  Like anything in life there are decent people and there are idiots, it doesn't matter what proportion they are because people will inevitably remember the latter and rarely the former.  To suggest that once you become a dog owner you no longer give a toss about anyone else or their property is just completely nonsense and makes a mockery of your 'lifetime experience' claim.  I most certainly do not accept my dog doing any of the items you mention to my own property and I'd be horrified if he did it to anyone elses.  But apparently that doesn't matter because all dog owners must be inconsiderate idiots as they have no concern for their own property others according to you.

Apparently it takes 2 dogs to fight (no fight, Charlie was on lead off the ground) and as he didn't see it won't pay the bill.

Our poor dogs go mental at certain types of dogs due to these attacks. We've taken them to socialisation classes to get on top of it but we are back to square one again.

Am I right in my attitude towards the latest owner ?

Should have his dog on a lead if it can't be directly controlled around other dogs ?

I was ready to rip his head off this morning.

It maybe takes two dogs to 'fight' but it certainly doesn't take two for one to attack another, sadly it wouldn't the first dangerous dog to be allowed off the lead.  There was a particularly violent collie that used to be walked the same area as we walked our dog and it was never on the lead and never muzzled even though it regularly attacked other dogs.  I've come across several others that are walked off the lead that are also vicious, there's no have a sniff or anything they come straight in for the attack and the owners aren't bothered unsurprisingly as otherwise they'd be on leads.  Those that are genuinely concerned about their dogs doing damage to others keep them on the lead and make it clear to keep my dog away.

I don't find having my own dog on or off the lead makes the slightest bit of difference to him being attacked as it's happened as many times off the lead as it has on.  He doesn't in any way encourage either as he's a complete wimp, even when he's playing with other dogs he's the one frequently in the full submissive position upside down.

Send them a request that they reimburse you for vets bills, followed by two reminders.

If they ignore them, send in High Court Sherrifs not bailiffs.

That way you will get your money back.

Some years ago a neighbours german shepherd dog attacked my cross collie, ripping her , my dog was on a leash his burst through his hedge to get to her. he saw what was happening and came to his door shouting and kicking  her inside. I went to him to talk to him about it but he slammed the door in my face saying nothing had happened so I called the police who came straight out.

I had to make a statement and point out his dog as the offender.

The case went to court and his dog was sentenced to death as it was not the first time. I love dogs and it is not the animals fault just the owners.

he appealed the sentence and with the help of many people signing a petition plus the local paper ran a story on it because he had lost his wife about 7 months prior.

Thankfully the dog was reprieved but he got his family together (traveller types) in a group of about 15 men and women and stood outside my gate just staring, I went up the drive and told them to go whilst they could and stood my ground, I had no intention of getting into a fight but will never walk away from a threat, I pointed to my wife in the upstairs window videoing the situation and said if there was any further action from them I would go to the police and the papers, eventually they left,

The sad thing was that his dog died of neglect whilst tied to his back garden fence about three weeks  later along with a pen full of chickens that he had in a shed, they died of lack of water.

That did not make the papers!
